    PK 360 grill rust

I hadn’t used my PK 360 in about a month until yesterday. The hinged portion of the cooking grate was very rusted. I thought they were 316 stainless steel. Anyway that end of the grill gets most of the fires I build. I’ll build a fire on that end then let my steaks come to temp on the other end before searing them over the coals. If I order a new grate from PK will I get the same that came with the grill or a truly stainless steel grate? If I have to I’ll build a real stainless grate to use, I just am not going to use a rusted grate or worry about keeping the rust scrubbed one either.

PK grills were the 'hot ticket' 4-5 years ago. I rarely see or hear about them, so wondering what happened the the company.?.

The founder, Hilton Meigs of Texas, sold his business to in 1958 and the buyer moved the company to Little rock, Arkansas. In the 1970's and 1980's gas grills started to edge out the PK grills and the brand changed hands a few more times but eventually went out of production. Arkansas lawyer Paul James, who found one in a garage sale in the mid 1980's bought the intellectual property and brand from the Char-Broil company of Columbus, GA and brought it back into production.

Matters where you're looking. PK grills are still the standard in Steak competitions. For me, they are still the hot ticket. Basically, the only grill I charcoal grill on and for small BBQ cooks. I absolutely love my PK360 and recommend them whenever someone asks me about purchasing a charcoal grill. The Santa Maria attachment I bought for my PK360 is awesome. But Oak Smokes post above has me worried on the quality of the recent products.

I have never had a rust issue with my grill grate that came with my PK360 8 years ago. Disconcerting to hear. Call PK customer service and maybe get a replacement grill grate?

I’ve found a place that sells a beautiful stainless replacement grill for $124.00. I don’t think it been long enough since I won this grill here for there to be rust issues. Either way I will fix it. It’s a great grill and would work very well as a smoker. When I put steaks on the indirect end to bring them to temp before searing them the temperature is easy to regulate.

Have you asked PK about this? They may very well send one for free.

I just heard back from PK via messenger. A non stainless grate is warranted for a period of 1 year. I think that puts me in the go buy one category. It’s not a big deal and I don’t intend to make it one. I’ll share pictures of the new one when it arrives. Oh and I don’t want to seem ungrateful to AmazingRibs this is a wonderful prize.
        Thank you!

I'm confused. The PK360 doesn't come with a stainless grate? On their site the replacement for the original is a non-stainless grate, but the P360 has a stainless grate, and the description states, marine stainless steel cooking surface, which is 316 right? It should have a 3 year warranty.

Did a bot answer your query?

Carolyn I received a message from Shannon Field at PK. She listed the warranty times on each part and gave me a link to submit a claim. The SS grates are warrantied for 3 years, the non SS are warrantied for 1 year. I’m pretty comfortable with metals and what I have is not SS. I think I’d be wasting time trying to get mine replaced by them. The message was cordial but to the point. I’ll get the nice heavy SS aftermarket ones and move on. I like it and it means a lot to me than I won it here.
