How old is this grill and where to find parts?

I picked this up at an estate sale for $25. PK does not make replacement grates for this model.. Anyone know where to get them?

Contact PK Grills. They should be able to guide you.

I would also start by deep cleaning, brushing, possibly polish with some kind of aluminum polish for all the smooth surfaces to get them restored. I am wondering if those cooking grates could be soaked in ammonia or oven cleaner to strip them, or if they are solid rust.

Good luck finding the parts - the grill body should last a lifetime, and looks like it has. Just need to find you some stainless cooking grates or get some made, along with a new charcoal grate.

One idea is if the new style PK grates are BIGGER, you might get a local welding shop to modify them for you to fit, or extend them with rod stock if they are too small to fit the old style PK.

OMG!!! How lucky are you! I wish I could find one like that! How cool.

I would not sweat the grate. You can clean that one up.

I am sure PK can help find one for you. If not, I am sure there are some options out there. This is beyond cool!

So what is the rectangular piece laying across the bottom shelf in the cart? Is that another shelf of some sort? Looks like the same material as the shelves anyway...

Yes it is another shelf that I haven't Put on. I called PK and they no longer make these. It's the biggest one they made and the grills they make now wont fit do to being smaller. The Facebook group said a place in TX but I think some Grill Grates will do. They aren't rusted all the way through. How do they cook? Learning curve? Thank you everyone!

I am a tad disappointed PK wasn’t able to help you out but I like the idea of Grill Grates especially as they can be custom cut. Some other good ideas in the thread too.

Wonderful find! They are easy to cook on, lots of videos on youtube and the PK website - same general principles will work for all the models. PK grills are a favorite on the completion steak circuit.

Is probably radioactive. Should send to me for proper disposal.

Naw, not radioactive. But if cleaning and grinding the aluminum you could get Aluminosis (similar to silicosis) without proper PPE. So send the grill to me for proper attention.

Congrats. With some work, you should have a great cooker.

Great find and deal. The good thing about GrillGrates is they do do custom cuts if needed.

Grill grated are easy to cut, with good blade and eye protection. I use a chop saw.

For the grates try contacting a local metal shop. You might be able to get a deal if you promise them some BBQ once they make you new grates.

Find somebody that can grit blast using crushed walnut shells. It will make the aluminum castings look brand new. For the sheet metal shelves, maybe just a good cleaning or scrubbing with very fine nylon scouring pads

Original Portable Kitchen. Back in business and they have spare parts.

Another alternative; GrillGrates for The Classic PK Grill | GrillGrate if these dimensions aren't quite right contact them to see if they have a way to accommodate.

As suggested above, contact metal fabricators either local or online (possibly etsy). Many shops these days have laser cutting machines that could cut slots in sheet stock to form a very functional grate. And theres always a formed tubing outer ring with expanded metal grate material similar to offset smoker pieces. Not as potential long service life but comparatively inexpensive and functional.

They are too small for this grill. They are 13.75 x 20.5, and I need 16.5 x 25.5. Definitely looking at custom.

Very cool find! Looks like an old Presidential. I hope to find one of those one day. Love the four top vents .
