    New PK300 Owner

I posted some initial pics in another thread, but I thought I’d post some of my first few cooks here. Looking forward to some low and slow this weekend.

The pks are fantastic grills and good smokers. The only limitation is volume. If they made a 720 I’d have one. I guess it wouldn’t be so "portable" then…

Looks good! Do you typically use a chimney or just pile coals and and use some type of starter cubes? Also, looks like you're a briquette vs lump guy, what do you use most of the time?

I agree. The portability is very appealing to me, and the grill is perfect for my small family of three. For larger cooks / entertaining I go to the MAK (99%) or plumbed in Weber Summit 6 burner gasser.

Currently using the Weber chimney. Works well. I’m coming from a Weber Performer where I dumped coals in an inverted vortex most often and started there.

Regarding coals, I typically only use briquettes for longer cooks, so lump the majority of the time, especially during the week. I recently ran out of lump, however, so need to restock.

Also, looking forward to receiving The Burn Shop charcoal basket Friday.

Received my Burn Shop charcoal basket last week. Heavier than I thought it would be. I put it right in the bottom without the coal grate. How do you install?
Do you find it difficult to empty spent coals and ash?
Left it out and exposed to the rain. Heavy gauge steel ,but rusts easily!
Definitely going to use it, but not sure less expensive baskets wouldn't have worked just as well. I also bought the "snake" version that comes with two small dividers.
                      What say you???.....

I say I don’t think I would buy it again. It is heavy, which I like, but it has become horribly bowed in the middle, nearly making the divider unusable. I have to angle it drastically for it to (barely) fit in the notches.

I place the basket on top of the coal grate. When cleaning, I move any coals that can be reused to a chimney, then dump the basket into the capsule. Then I dump the entire capsule. Not a problem.

Interesting, I've only used it twice but I'll watch for the bowing effect. Hard to believe since its such heavy guage steel.

Night 5. 😊 Mayo and KC BBQ marinated chicken breasts. Sliced for a chicken Caesar.
