    My Wife’s New Grill

Konichiwa, y’all! Authentic Japanese Konro’s are difficult to come by in the U.S. I ordered one in June which was back ordered to "Winter". I finally got the email that it was shipping in early December. How to explain to the wife about a new grill showing up at Christmas time? Why...make it a gift to her, of course!

Here she is opening it at the very moment of discovery. Was I really giving her a GRILL? Hai. The next moment wasn’t captured due to self-defense.

My daughter, the Asian expert in the background helped explain that Konro cooking is a social event like fondue. Wife loves fondue. She now loves "her" grill and has asked for Yakitori on New Year’s Day.

There it is — her new Konro, just waiting for some Binchotan.

This is my exact plan! Been thinking of doing this for over a year now. I want to be able to either drop in grill segments or icebox segments. So you could have 3 or 4 spots which could be all grills, all ice boxes, or any combination thereof.

Very cool, and nice save. I'm glad you are still with us - and not wearing that grill.

I got a short-scale bass guitar years ago through roughly the same technique. Granted, she had actually expressed some interest in learning to play bass...

The epilogue to this story is that wife still seems to think of this as "her" grill. I’m not sure if that’s a win or not!

I still think it's a heck of an idea! I'm going to try it for a birthday. I will report back on what hospital I am in for recovery!

The only thing missing is the smile on your wife's face! I'm looking forward to seeing this thread ongoing.

Nice gift! I've seen a few around here, they're gaining popularity. Such a nice way of doing 'social cooking'!

My wife pulled the reverse on me. She asked me to get "her" a gas grill so "she" could grill steaks "without all the charcoal mess."

So, not long after the grill was bought and assembled, during summer in South Texas, mind you, I saw her out in the kitchen seasoning some steaks. Shortly thereafter she asked me to turn on the burners in "her" grill. When I came back inside she handed me the plate of steaks and said, "Here, Honey." Somewhat bewildered, I asked what she wanted me to do with them. "Why, cook them, of course," was the sweet reply. It seems that it was just too hot for her to be outside grilling steaks.

Long story short: she has yet to cook a frickin' thing on "her" grill. "Here, Honey" has become an oft repeated meme in our house, usually when she says that "we" have to do something, "we" being Squeeky, the mouse in my pocket, and me.

Yeah but be careful how she might affect its use!

My wife would very much love a powerboat with the legs to make a Bimini run. 28+ feet with twin outboards.
