Charcoal / Wood Grill - Not an offset

I see over and over how popular offset smokers and pellet smokers are AND i see how popular Weber kettles are (have one myself) BUT i'm looking for something a tad different.

I'm looking for a charcoal / Wood grill that i can just bbq on, not an offset....something rectangular 24x48 like the Yoder Grill or the Lone Star Grillz

The popularity of cooking over charcoal has steadily increased over the past 10 years, and to meet that demand, Yoder Smokers has introduced large format charcoal grills that cater to the folks cooking for a crowd as well as those in the backyard.

Both of these have the pros and cons:

Yoder - I like the design and beefiness but the lid is really a big question mark...what if i want to thrown on a turkey, there's just no room...duh

Lone Star - i don't see it available in Canada and i ain't shipping that thing

I was wondering if any of you knew something thats available in my neck of the woods here in Calgary???

    thx

Take a look at Santa Maria style grills. They might suit your requirements. Not sure about availability near Calgary though, but maybe.

Meadow creek has lots of box style and Max has reviews of several.

BBQ pits, pig roasters, chicken flippers, cabinet smokers, and more for the the ones who demand quality that outlasts and outperforms the competition.

Also, I love those Yoder Grills. They look like absolute tanks! I was talking to Huskee about these the other day. Man are those cool rigs. I would love to have one of those hogs on my patio!

            1. Welcome from Indiana.

            2. Not sure about cookers in the Calgary are.

            3. Might be worth taking a look at Meadow Creek Smokers. They have some grills that are wood or charcoal base. The Pig Roasters are multipurpose usually and I love the box and chicken cookers. Big Poppa Smokers is a great online store and they are a dealer for them. BPS might have some other options too.

Look at M Grills, I came very close to getting the M1. My only issue at the time was the fact that that I live in a very high fire danger area and didn't want to use in on my wooden deck. The only place I felt safe using it was my driveway, which is gravel add to it snow packed in the winter. With the wheels that come with the unit it would have been virtually impossible to move it around. I just wish i could have made it work.

Thanks guys! I'll have a look at the links you've provided and continue my search....

I agree the Yoder gear is pretty nice....I just wish their grill had a proper lid

The Santa Maria style grills are pretty cool and definitely fill a niche but i'd like to have the option to have a fire on one end and something on the other end, close the lid and smoke it...

Maybe a good offset is be the way to go...?

Look closely at the M1 from M Grills. Sorta a combination of Santa Maria and smoker is what first drew me to look at them.
