I agree Mr. Bones. Every once and a while it does need to be scraped and allowed to build up again.

I just use Isopropyl Alcohol with a clean rag and it cleans everything off with a little elbow grease.

Did it work well for you? I ordered some Dawn Power Cleanser (or something like that) off of Amazon. Seems like a similar product, but was wondering if you used the other product and liked it.

I haven't used it yet. Intend to for a number of things around the cooking area. At least one member on the KBQ subforum reported good results with it. So I picked some up.

I did a little reading and it appears that pure acetone is organic and is in your body. So if it is pure, it is safe to use. They use it in the making of some herbal mixes. Here is also a little blurb from Healthline.com:

"Every day, your body breaks down fats into organic molecules called ketones. Acetone is one of three types of ketone bodies. Your liver makes ketones, and your body can use them for fuel. However, accumulation of ketones in the body can be dangerous. Acetone poisoning can occur when there’s an abnormally high amount of ketones. This is a condition known as ketoacidosis"

Thanks! I looked into acetone online and pure acetone is safe to use (yes, it is flammable) and is actually made in your body (but you don't want to drink the liquid).

So no matter what I use, I will at least finish up with acetone (if scraping and acetone together aren't enough).

I have had years of using acetone and still kicking. Will dry your hands out eventually as it takes all the grease off. Most of the stuff the general public can buy is pretty diluted anyway. Always good to keep around the house. Can be used for removing bumper scuffs or permanent marker.

Ha - 'Bones' beat me to the punch, but laughingly I sincerely agree. That 'Smoker Gunk' (ready to patent and trademark, anyone?) is why my 29" square box seals so darn well. It's 2-grates and I dual zone it every single time. It takes a good year of neglect and ~ 4 times a week use achieve this kind of grill seasoning perfection.

The problem I have is that once it heats up the rotary vents spin to wherever they want, cuz they're so well lubricated @ ~ 220 F. I have to tighten the lower ones before every use. Any ideas?
