Quirky Custom Cookers

For some time I've felt like starting a thread about well done and creative outdoor cookers. I see them from time to time on FB Market place. Some are obviously crude and as such aren't as interesting, but some appear to be well done and artistic to some degree or other. Here in Texas there seem to be folks who follow various themes. There are large bull shaped units that probably appeal especially to UT grads. Then there's the ones that resemble a Colt revolver from the ol' West.

Here's one that popped up recently near where we're having a Meat Up later this month. Star Wars seems a popular theme. Not a typical Tie Fighter, but reasonable facsimile.

Every time the pipeline industry hits a slump in the area I retired from all the welders would try their hand at pit building. Some were very good at it. There would be some real artsy fartsy ones that had no appeal to me at all. The welders at our local BP office got bored and built a beautiful big stick burner one year. It was huge. It would easily smoke 8 briskets at a time. The next year the new superintendent declared it a fire and safety hazard and told them to put it in the scrap iron pile. With a little politics and a well placed case of beer that thing was sitting in my back yard in two days. It’s now at my BIL he does large brisket cooks for special events.

They also put up a lot of pipe fence as well, or have art at First Monday Trade Days in Canton.
