"portable" grill for 2 spatchcock chickens

So I might be moving to a different office at work, but the location doesn't have a nearby kitchen or anything to reheat anything I cook at home.

If I get another charcoal grill I'll sadly have to rehome the PKGO so I initially was thinking a PK300AF but it looks iffy as to whether it can handle 2 chickens. The larger SnS kettle is another option I was thinking of and I have found videos where it looks more likely to handle 2 birds?

I'm lazy, so whatever I might get has to be durable and last if I neglect it but I gotta be able to chuck it in the back of my truck by myself too.

I'd also use whatever occasionally to reheat/hold something I smoked on my MAK over the weekend.

Doesn't look like that does much my PKGO can't do already. I should have clarified I want the room to do 2 spatchcock birds indirect. The PKGO can comfortably grill 2-4 birds but can only do 1 indirect.

Got it. Yeah, I didn’t get that it was a size thing, or even why the PK was no longer useful.

I’d get a cheap kettle off FB Marketplace, and toss it when it gets over abused, then get another one. They’re pretty common at $25-$50, and even free sometimes.

Might want to check out Hasty Bake Ranger. Similar space as PK300 but you can use the whole grate “indirect”. I’ve got a PKGO and PK Original but this Ranger is a very enjoyable cooker. Mostly Stainless so maintenance factor is low.

That wasn't on my tracker, and does fit more with the capability I'm wanting. But 800 for a little grill and another 400 for the stand is not something that'll happen. I'll have to keep my eyes on their scratch amd dent sales.

ItsAllGoneToTheDogs scratch and dent is when I got mine. I also managed to use another additional coupon on top of it. It’s a great “little” cooker! Hope you find a good option that fits your desires!

I thought of the travel SnS immediately.

I think it is going to be difficult to find something portable to fit that much chicken. Could 2 Jumbo Joes work? They would be cost effective.

Probably true, but ya never know until you ask the Pit. If what I'm thinking of is out there one of our fine members probably knows about it

Admittedly, it is unclear why the office move means you need a new smoker. However, I am not going to let it stand in my way of supporting MCS.

About a week ago, I did 4 racks of STL ribs on the PK300 with the Littlemore grid indirect. It seems to me like it is doable. How tall are these spatchcocked chickens? I can go and measure if you want.

No ovens to reheat stuff at my new office. Old one had a full kitchen.

I'm just using 2 chickens as my reference since that would be the biggest thing I would cook. Typically they would be a couple inches high, but I forgot about that rack accessory, that may work.

Oh okay. So you’d leave this at the office to reheat lunch or dinner or transport to the office as needed. Fair enough.

The flat nature of the PK300 seems to work well for spatchcock. I wouldn’t get the large grid as the Littlemore is built more for 2-zone.

STEbbq I wouldn't leave it at work but I'd probably bring whatever I end up with to work a few times per month to feed my coworkers.

I would think a barrel type rig that lets you hang chickens or whatever would be the answer. A Bronco is too heavy to be considered easily portable, but a Pit Barrel Cooker shouldn't be too bad.

What about a PK360? It’s made to be modular, easily lifts off the stand and has built-in feet for tabletop use. It’s $100 off with a free carbon steel griddle for it right now.

Adding the cookmore grid to the PK300AF or PKOriginal might be the answer to your double spatchcock yard bird dilemma. But you’ll need to check the dimensions. I’ve used the cookmore grid before and it worked in my PK’s.

Pit Barrel PBJ. Very portable, and a chicken cooking machine.

I can't see any charcoal grill or smoker being convenient for reheating stuff in an office parking lot! Long time to get going, long time to cool down and then dispose of charcoal.

If anything, a portable propane grill that works from the small 1 pound bottles would be more convenient, but its all gonna be messy unless its riding in the back of a pickup truck.

EDIT: better yet, get you a 12V DC powered portable pellet smoker, like the GMG Trek or something meant to be vehicle powered?

I am thinking like a “Friday lunch” deal where it is more of an event and time is less of a consideration. This doesn’t seem to be a situation where he has to deliver 2 chickens in 30 minutes before a client meeting.

It'll work for my needs, cook outside my office door at an appropriate time before lunch. Although I do have free propane I can use at this job a gasser isn't what I'm wanting for this. I actually do have multiple built in gassers and kitchens available at this job but supervising any use of them would take me away from my duties where a cooker out front wouldnt.

There are some very nice small Blackstone griddles that use the one pound LP cylinders. I’ve reheated several things on mine. I just throw a pan lid or something actually made for this, over the food and let it warm. Very simple to pack up and put in the office or the trunk of your car. They will cook so many things that you’ll have several options.

I did think about a camp stove setup as a backup option.

That’s a good option too. If just a burner will cover your needs get an electric hot plate or even better an electric skillet with a lid. You can plug those in inside the office.

So I've pretty much settled on the PK360, it does things my PKGO obviously can't do where the 300 has limitations (though not as severe as the PKGO) when it comes to things like ribs. The 300 can do 4 racks WITH a vertical rib rack. The 300 can also do lots of things I would like a grill to do, thanks to videos that Henrik has posted on youtube but also requires lots of accessories. Though my WANT would be the 300 since it has a flip kit like the PKGO, the need says the 360 realistically does more of what I would actually use regularly.

Not gonna buy for a while so we'll see if the 360 or a scratch and dent HB ends up on the deck, or if something different enters the fray in my brain between now and then.

                Really appreciate everyones input

Good luck keeping up with the pricing. I will say $799 and a free carbon steel griddle is probably one of the best deals I have seen for the 360 in a while. Usually it was a free overpriced cover whereas the griddle is actually useful.

The 360 is a great grill, good choice 👍. Let’s hope you can find one at a decent price.

Well, I have a temporary solution... just need to clean it up. Not ideal for what I want to do long term still, but it's free.

I would think that's the exact opposite of "portable", but it should work.

Steve R. It's a few steps from my office door so it kinda meets the cooking at work part of the requirement. Still waiting on the right deal to pull the trigger on something more smoker focused that lives at my house and comes to work maybe every couple weeks or so for a day.
