    Doori cooker

I saw an ad on my Instagram feed for a new cooker based on an Indian tandoor oven, the "Doori." I hadn't ever seen it before so it was probably the only ad I might ever click on purpose, but being so conditioned to ignoring ads that I scrolled past it and it was gone.

(Product development details are available at https://npd.studio/our-work/doori/ but this seems to be a portfolio page for the company that was commissioned to design it.)

Details are scarce, and it doesn't seem to be available yet, but it looks interesting! I would probably be a little worried about my food sliding down into the coals, but perhaps they've solved that.

I think Meathead gave me similar tools for the BGE so I appreciate the concept but this can absolutely be done on existing kamados without using a dedicated and more limited unit (no grill grates?).

Someone on the Pit has an actual clay tandoor oven, but I'm not sure where you would buy one in the US. It would be pretty cool, but I can probably emulate a lot of that cooking on my kettle or kamado too...

Not me. I do have a tagine, akin to a Dutch Oven. And a bean pot, both made of clay.

Some of you might remember that a few years ago I built a backyard tandoor oven out of terracotta pots and a large ceramic planter. It worked quite well, although there was a bit of a learning curve which I was still in the middle of. During the following winter, the cover I had on it failed. It got water in between the cooking

That link from Mosca was good and makes me want to try this some time. Unfortunately the skewers in the article are out of stock, but here are some similar that I think could be sprung/opened up some on the hook end, to hang over the opening in the top of a kamado:

Here's how I turned my Egg into a Tandoor. I then found flat skewers with hooks on the end. STEbbq now has the Egg, ring, and skewers

Hi This is the founder of the new outdoor cooker Doori, Bharat. I just wanted to reach out to you and reply to the query raised by JTW.

We tried many different devices during our development and we have yet to find anything better than the humble potato wrapped in foil. We tried metal devices and clamps but they were difficult to remove when hot and a pain to clean - sometimes the best ideas come from nature ! By the way we now season the potato as its nicely baked by the time the food is cooked !

We are launching Doori on Kickstarter tomorrow. If anyone is interested they can follow us here :

This is not meant to be a sales pitch but we are based in the UK and I am genuinely interested in getting feedback on the Doori from Pitmaster community - as you are the real serious guys when it comes to outdoor cooking !

Please feel free to ask anything.

              Cheers Bharat
