I am replacing my 20 year old Weber kettle. I also have a PBC and the one thing about it is it is challenging to run at lower temps (for things like salmon). I have also been considering The Good One as a combo grill smoker, with the larger balance of use as a grill and indirect cooker. Any input in comparing the PK360 and the Good One as 85% grill and 15% smoker? (Other than price)

Here is the review of the Platinum Winning Open Range model by The Good One by our grand poobah of

and the PK360: : https://amazingribs.com/ratings_revi...smoker-review/
Seems to me that you couldn't go wrong with either but I can say that the PK body, being heavy cast aluminum, will last a lifetime

I think both cookers are good. The Good One used to be in the Give Away and I would have liked to have won it. I think if you do multiple racks of ribs or whole briskets it would be a good choice.

I used to really want The Good One. Just like LA Pork Butt when it was on the giveaway that would’ve been my choice. Seems way more versatile than the PK.

Me too. I had to pass on a used one a few years ago for various reasons. Always regretted it. I posted it on here and someone bought it. I'd definitely go with the Good One. And if you find you miss having a kettle, you can always find a used one on Craig's list or FB at a reasonable price.

Both great choices. The Good-One functions as more of a dedicated smoker while the PK360 leans toward a grill that is particularly good at smoking as well.

Basically I am trying to replace the Weber for grilling, which I do more regularly, and hopefully get more a more versatile smoker to complement the PBC (temp control, not capacity) for things it isn't ideally suited for.

Green Caribou if that’s the case I think it’s PK 360 all the way. Boom.

I have no experience with The Good One.
I use the PK 360 for precise 2-zone, hot and fast roasting/smoking - with/without a reverse sear. thick steak, crispy chicken, burgers. The results are better than I ever produced on my kettle, or combo Cheap Offset.
I have used it for three years and I am a fan. I don’t use it for low and slow smoking - I like real wood for that.
It is limited to 2 spatchcocked chicken2 when doing 2-zone cooking. Second shelf.
Here is a NY Strip on the PK. Grocery store meat. 👍

I cannot comment on "The Good One", however, I’m a big fan of my PK 360. Awesome for grilling. My son is away at college and so it is just my wife and me at home more often than not therefore the PK 360 is a great size. The temp control is outstanding and easy to figure out too. This grill was my first real attempt at managing fire (I usually used my Yoder pellet grill). Once I learned to not be overly controlling and to not mess with the vents things got much better. It easily runs 225-250 for reverse sears or smoking (I like that range for smoking) and then when you want more air to crank the temp to sear being charcoal based it gets hot. I have also had it running 350 with 2 zone cooking too. When at 250 it is very fuel efficient too and a load of briquettes will last several hours only requiring "banking" a couple times. It’s a pretty "set and forget" once you get it dialed in. I tend to check temps every hour or so now when cooking on it. I did get busy once and realized it had been 2 hours since I checked a temp and it was holding 240-250. Think the cast aluminum body really helps maintain the temps too. With a set of Grill Grates it’s a searing machine.
Good luck your research and your decision!

My answer is buy BOTH, but not at the same time. I am familiar with the Good One because we have an outlet here in Indy. But that same outlet is where I bought my PK360. I think the Good One is a better choice for smoking large quantities or bigger cuts, but the PK is more directly like a Weber kettle.
For replacing a Weber kettle, I don't think you can go wrong with with the PK360. I bought it because it is my forever grill and I've already told my daughter she can sell my big smoker when I die, but she's not allowed to get rid of the PK. I cook on the PK like it's a replacement for my oven inside my house two to four times a week. It is my go to family grill.
I have a Lang 48 inch deluxe patio off set smoker, and if I'm doing brisket or pork butt, there's no substitute, and I suspect that the Good One offers a similar flavor and capacity.
So my advice is don't look at this as a hard choice. Just choose which one you think you might want more immediately, and then purchase the other one down the road so you have the best of both worlds!
Best wishes!

For a long time I used the pk360 for most things and the PBC when I needed more volume. That’s a versatile combo.
i can run a fan on the 360 and smoke at 225F on it for 16-20 hours untouched.
The good one seems like fun but may be a little more hands on. Depends what your style is.Last edited by Polarbear777; April 10, 2022, 09:04 AM.

I have both of these and they are both very good grills. I bought the Good One Open Range about 8 months before the 360 came out and I bought one of the first 360's that came out so I've had both pretty close to the same time.
I've only grilled on the OR a couple of times and mostly used it for smoking. It holds very stable temps and is very easy to get it set up to the temp you want. The 360 is a little harder for me to do the same. They both work great as a grill with the OR probably having a little more room.
The 360 is of course aluminum and has held up fine while my OR has a lot of rust on it even though it stays under a carport that has sides. The 360 is cheaper.
The OR is a fuel hog while the 360 gets it done with minimal fuel. If I had to pick just one, it would probably be the 360.
I also have a Good One Marshall which I like better than the OR because it has a much bigger capacity.
