A open fire rotisserie has intrigued me for a couple years now particularly since we purchased our lake property and we are doing a lot of camp fires and have a permanent fire pit. I'm a stick burner guy anyhow so I love fire management. My problem has always been I have a built in aversion to poking all those holes in meat. I'm just hardwired that way. I watched one of the Sam The Cooking Guy videos where he had a beautiful 6lb prime rib roast. First he shoved a 5/8" rod through the center of that beautiful roast. Next there were two four pronged forks each tine 4" long that were shoved in each end of that beautiful roast. Eight more holes!
That was just plain hard for me to watch. So I started looking at rotisserie baskets. That was a improvement but you still had the rod that needed to go through the middle of the protein. After a good amount of searching I ran across the solution I was looking for. A open fire set up that required no stabbing of the meat with a rod or forks. A basket that you open up put the meat in and let her spin! The meat may tumble a bit but not enough that it will beat it up.
Best part is it's made in the USA with the exception of the motor and in my home state of Minnesota to boot. The basket motor combo runs $150 so not cheap but I'm happy to pay extra to support any American based company. I'm waiting on the quote for the rods and required motor mount. This is what it looks like.
