Greetings Pitmasters!
I saw a great little cylindrical table top size grill/smoker here somewhere. It was just about big enough to roast a chicken indirect (36" long, maybe?), with a movable height charcoal grate, and a removable ash pan. It wasn't a common mass brand (charbroil, weber, etc), and I didn't write down the name. I think it was US made. I've looked through all the reviews, and haven't been able to find it. Any suggestions? Brand might have started with a 'B'...
Yeah, kinda! That might work pretty well, and the price certainly is right. I'm doing a lot of sous vide, and really just need something like this for searing, and getting some smoke on the cook. The raiseable fire grate was certainly a plus this doesn't have, but for the money difference I could stoke it with a half-ton of charcoal.
Hope I can find something a little better quality. One hilarious review:
I can’t believe they called it a "Fire Box", I used it one time to smoke with and the paint peeled off of it! I contacted customer service and they instructed me that: "NEVER EXCEED 400 BECAUSE THIS WILL DAMAGE THE FINISH AND CONTRIBUTE TO RUST. PAINT IS NOT WARRANTED" "limit of 400 degrees outlined in the Owner’s Manual for this grill " "You only need about 15 briquettes" "Just remember wood is dense and burns much hotter than charcoal. If you love the flavor of smoking with wood, try using wood chips" And the best one is "I want you to get the longest life you can from your Char-Griller grill. The most important steps to take now are to prevent the grill from rusting. You'll want to remove any loose paint, sand down the affected area and use a good high heat paint, such as Rustoleum for touch-ups" So there you go, if you want to buy this thing, plan on spending the afternoon sanding and painting because they chose not to use "a good high heat paint, such as Rustoleum" (Which they will gladly send you video links showing you how to sand and repaint their grill). And don’t plan on using wood, Crazy to think they don’t ever expect a BBQ to reach 400 degrees.
