My father in-law loves his old Charbroil 940x but it is time to replace it. Unfortunately, this grill is no longer being made. Can someone recommend a replacement grill that works like the 940X?

What does he like and not like about the 940x? Do you have a budget?
if your budget is very small and you want an adjustable grate, there’s the Judge.
But it will require some mods and effort.
if you have room to step up in budget, the Hasty Bake is very popular and high quality with that adjustable grate too.

Suggest replacing it with a Traeger, Timberline 850.

Mgmcotton I second STEbbq in suggesting the Oklahoma Joe Judge, if you can find one. The design appears to be similar to the grill your dad liked.

It appears to me that the height of the charcoal tray is adjusted using two handles inside the grill, versus an outside lever, so you will want some good gloves to grab it and raise or lower it while in use.Last edited by jfmorris; August 9, 2021, 02:27 PM.Comment
