    Masterbuilt 560 fan stops working

I was about 13 hours in on smoking a brisket at 225F and the smoker temperature started dropping. The hopper was a little less than half full of charcoal, and I could see that it seemed to be burning OK when I looked in. It was dark, so I just finished the brisket in the oven (it was at 190F when this happened. In order to figure out the problem, the next day I set up to reverse sear a steak. The inital cooking at 350F was fine, but when I cranked it up the smoker only reached 500F, then the temperature started to decline slowly. In this case, I observed the fan had stopped, and nothing I tried would get it started again. There were no error messages on the panel or app.

Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone solved it? Thanks very much.

Welcome to the Pit from Virginia!. I do not have a Masterbuilt, I have heard of issues. Maybe someone will jump in here to help.

A quick internet search came up with this:

If your Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 fan stops working, the issue is almost always a tripped safety switch on the ash bin door or hopper lid, or a disconnected wire. The fan will completely disable itself unless every door is perfectly sealed.

Hope that helps and that it's that simple to fix. Let us know what you find out...

That would/should generate an error code, and he says there is none. 🤷‍♂️

There are three switches. One on the cook chamber door, another on the coal hopper door, and one on the ash bin door.

They fail when those doors are opened or closed. That doesn't sound like your case. The switches can be wired around, just take them out and put the two wires together. Their purpose is for safety, to shut down the fan when any door is open. But that's one way to troubleshoot.

I would check wiring. It has a harness down below the cook chamber, just check all the connections and make sure something is not loose. When I had a 560, the wires going into the back of the controller would get loose.

It sounds like your issue is intermittant, which could mean a short in the wiring. I put a new harness on my 560, it was not hard at all.

After wires and switches, then I would start looking at a failure in the controller. Might be a good time to buy a new Fireboard Drive.

And another thought, could spray the switches with an electrical contact cleaner. I had some, but right now I can't think of the brand name. I knew a fella who kept his 1050 working , doing that.

I think it has to be either a bad fan or bad wiring connection. My 1050 had intermittent problems with safety switches, but there would always be an error code for that.

If it is a controller issue. Fireboard is now producing a replacement for the controller which I think includes the 560. I have the XT and am monitoring temps along with the MB controller. Still learning but haven't seen a significant difference between the MB probe temp and the FB probes.
