I have an old Masterbilt Vertical Pellet Smoker that hasn't been used in years. I'd like to convert it to a stick burner. Does anyone have any insight as to how to start the rebuild? I presume a firebox needs to be welded onto the smoker along with a smoke stack. Any help would be appreciated!

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I agree with Jerod Broussard.
I think the issue with making it a stick burner is that it the Masterbuilt smoker body itself is built of such flimsy sheetmetal, you would not be able to weld a firebox to it that is heavy enough gauge to build fires in. The firebox would most likely weigh more than the smoker itself if made out of appropriate gauge metal - 1/4" steel for example. You would be better off with a detached "firebox" that had some type of duct or chute to send the hot air to the smoker body.
If you ask me, it's an idea, for sure. But not all ideas that seem good on first glance are worth pursuing... I would just make it the best pellet smoker it can be, and leave it at that...

Thanks Fellas, my son-in-law's brother works with a metal fabricator so I'll talk to him! Your comments illustrate the concerns I had when I started thinking about converting the Masterbuilt. My brother-in-law bought the MB and it worked once then the control board went out! He abandoned it so maybe I'll convert it into a cold smoker...more to come! Thanks again!
