I think it was a figment of your imagination. It's a display model. It was saying nuttin'. It's the muffled sounding ones still in their box that you must have heard. Well, its a theory anyway.
Buy the PBC with the caveat that if you don't like it you'll gift it to a family or friend as a Christmas or birthday gift. Then if you do several cooks in it you're just, ya know, like seasoning it - for the next owner. So they can immediately start using it
Just a suggested rationalization, I couldn't possibly have the faintest idea of if it would work
Save your money. Being frugal is the path to net worth.
That said, I just bought an XL BGE. It's on my porch, staring at me. Saying, "why are you building a fire in your WMS when you told your wife that I was the cooker to end all cookers? Here you are, back with your old smoker. You are never going to leave her, are you?"
You know, maybe XL BGE is right. Maybe I am a one-smoker-at-a-time kind of guy. Maybe we should all practice monogamy with our outdoor cooking equipment. Maybe instead of buying that PBC you should spend $300 on meat? Or, maybe I should shut up and get back to the fire I'm building in my WSM...
Sometimes those voices in your head are bad ones and sometimes are good ones. I say those you heard around the PBC are good ones and it's not a good idea to silence the good ones
Christmas is months away. Maybe I could stash it in the woods behind the house, pretend I am burning brush with chickens hanging from branches cooking...
I’ve had my PBC a couple of weeks. It’s a really excellent, unique flavor. The smoke flavor is light, but it produces an excellent smoke ring. It’s almost like a cross between smoked and grilled. The charcoal burns so clean there’s pretty much no charcoal flavor and the bark comes out just right without wrapping. Just do it!
If you come on here thinking you are going to get help with MCS you can forget that. I came across a WSCG a while back for $799 and came to the pit hoping folks would save me from myself. Forget that! The pressure was so intense that if I didn't get it I would forever be sorry for not making the move. I caved and bought it, but not before talking them down to $749. Best move I made by the way. It is my go to grill/smoker.

I’d rather a PBC talking to me than the Lonestar Grills 20x36 cooker talking to me like it has the last few days. Ugggh it’s sitting in a cart.....ready to click submit and deliver!
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
