I'm pretty sure you guys have convinced me to get the regular-size Pit Barrel Cooker, and I might order it tomorrow. So, of course, I’m looking at all the accessories and trying to decide which ones of pick up (probably a cover and chimney starter). What are the essentials?

Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.

Aint got me no PBC, so far, but, if it's like any other cooker on Earth, then I'd probly haveta say all of em,. lol!
Jus kiddin, a bit...
There are countless PBC owners here what will most likely help ya out, directly, like.
That way, ya can most likely find th right accessories, first time out...

to fiddle with a more capable cooker)

> Thermoworks Smoke
> 3 Thermoworks Chef Alarms
> Thermoworks Thermapen One
> Thermoworks Thermapen Classic

> Searzall torch

1. Get the cover. Water or melting snow will pool on the lid.
2. Get (or make) a second hook lifter. You’ll be glad you did.
3. I highly recommend the ash catcher. There are home made alternatives, but it really makes life easier.
4. Extra hooks? A good idea if you’re going to cook more than four racks of ribs and want to double hook them.
5. Chimney starter? I use the full size Weber with no problems. Others prefer one of the shorter ones.
6. Welding gloves? Yes ... if you like the hair on your arms.
7. Other stuff? Wait until you’ve cooked enough on the PBC to know what you really need ... and what you’ll actually use.Last edited by MBMorgan; May 22, 2018, 11:45 PM.

I agree with MBMorgan 's list but would add the hinged grate as well, or make a half-grate yourself by cutting off half the bars of a grate like many of us did long before PBC offered one for sale. See this topic for more info: https://pitmaster.amazingribs.com/fo...he-great-grate
For compact chimneys, I like the shorter wider chimney in the CharBroil Half Time model. It heats the coals up way faster than the compact Weber or presumably the PBC compact chimney which is close to the design of the compact Weber. See my comparison on this topic: https://pitmaster.amazingribs.com/fo...-weber-compact

I have the cover and just ordered the ash catcher. The cover is still in real good shape after 3 years, and I'm getting tired of cleaning the ash from the bottom of the barrel. Sounds like I need to get the turkey hanger too!
