Good looking little smoker, and a good price. Not a bad unit at all.

Ooooo........ I am intrigued. Especially with the standard PBC price being so high now.

It has been rumored for sometime now with various sightings, but this is the first time I have seen it on the OKJ website.

A little math says that 284 sq in cooking area is a 19” diameter. (Square root of 284/3.14 is 9.5, x2 = 19). Is that what these things usually are?

Idk, if they rounded up a smidge, like counted the slack between the grate and the drum, that would account for the greater cooking area and difference in the calculations, I guess.

Yeah I looked through their page for a minute to see if they listed the diameter but couldn't find it. They showed the full width with shelves, but not the diameter. Go figure - you know, it's not like that's useful information people would want to know or anything the actual size of the cooking grate? lol <rolleyes>

It is the same size as the previous version of the Bronco. The Bronco Pro's grate is 21.5 inches.

Interesting. I love my Bronco. I have never moved it around nor have I found the need to reload charcoal during a cook, even with a 12 hour smoke with B&B Briquets/Char Logs mix. YMMV. I do think the access to the charcoal is much easier to use than mine and is a great improvement.
Due the bulk and weight of my Bronco, there is no way I would take it tailgating or to the park. I wonder if the height from the coal bed to the rib hangers is the same. I have to cut some racks in half, so they don't touch the coals.

The one thing the access on the side might do is save me a little charcoal. I tend to be heavy handed loading mine up, as I know adding more later will be a pain, and I usually end up with too much, wasting some (I try to recycle it for direct-heat cooks on my kettle). I ran out of charcoal once on a large brisket I started at 10 p.m. and ran overnight. It ran out sometime the next morning; I believe I was out of B&B briquettes that day as well.

Meh. I don't like the looks of that new Bronco. I feel it is not welded up metal anymore, but that the lid/dome is now stamped and formed out of thinner sheet metal. I think they've changed it to reduce production costs over the original model. The curve over at the top slightly reduces head-space if you are hanging stuff too.

Yeah, those were my thoughts as well. I have the old Bronco and love it, though I don't use it nearly as often as I'd like to - maybe only once every other month.

I’m thinking too many moving parts and possible air leaks. I would like an easy way to a wood chunks without moving the food around, but I never have had to add charcoal during cooks. I do want to see one to judge the quality though.

The size and weight are the same as the older version, so I don't think they cut costs there. The tires are now rubber/plastic and "stand" doesn't look as sturdy. I do agree that the door is probably going to leak smoke and require a gasket to seal it. As far all welded, the older version's top and bottom were bolted together and not welded

Ohhh. Lots of bells and whistles. Looks like a fun little smoker, but alas, it does not provide anything new that my other smokers/grills don't already supply. Be good for someone just starting out in this hobby though.

Personally, I like the looks of the new Bronco. As tstalafuse mentions above, it is the same size and weight as the older Bronco, so they didn’t cut corners in quality it looks like. While the most obvious change, besides the rounded lid, is the addition of a side door for adding charcoal, but I don’t see why they did that. The Bronco can easily do a 10-12 hour cook without adding charcoal, if you know what you’re doing.

Not too bad. I can get 23+ hours at 250 on my Super 55. I can't imagine cooking any single item that would require more than that. lol

I am going to buy one to replace my current Bronco which I will sell soon. At my age, 83 with Parkinson's, having easier access to the charcoal and ash baskets is a big deal for me. From my research, the build quality is similar to the older unit. The wheels are rubber coated steel, not plastic. I really like cooking on my current Bronco, and I'm sure I will on the new one as well.

When you decide to sell the original, let me know. If no one else here wants to buy it, I might be able to convince a friend to do so.

Only problem with buying directly from OKJ is they charge shipping, which typically runs around $150. You'd still be better off buying from say Home Depot where it's $399 with no shipping charge, and if you're on their military discount program you'll get another 10% off.

Ordered it from Home Depot Today. I tried to get them to math the OKJ price, but no luck. I was never i. the military. It should arrive on Friday. I'm going to seal the two halves with food-safe RTV when I put it together. There is a great narrated 3D video assembly app on the OKJ web site. I also downloaded the OKJ manual from the Home Depot web site

What would be a fair price to ask for my original Bronco?

Just got a note From Home Depot with FEDEX tracking. It's coming from NJ.

Each market is different, but I'd think somewhere $150 - 200 depending on condition. I sold one of mine a year or so ago for $200 with a cover. I had to be a little patient and ignore a bunch of flakes that made silly offers, but eventually a serious buyer came along.

I sold mine last year and asked $200. I believe I sold it for $175.

CORRECTION: I first listed my Bronco here in The Pit for $200. for any members. It didn’t sell so I listed it for $250. on Offer Up and Craigslist. Got an offer for $200., I countered with $225. So, I wound up getting $225. for mine.
