It has a cache factor that the ubiquitous WSM simply can't match. It's cool.

What would you smoke in the Red Box? The inside dimensions are small at 12w X 13d X 14h which gives you the power to get creative with your cooks. I've thought about a Kamado Joe Jr to do small cooks for the wife and I like sea scallops, lamp chops or a half a pork shoulder. It's a lot of money for the Red Box but it also looks like it's a quality product. I'd love to see a picture of one loaded up with the door opened.

You've probably read them already but here's a link to their Amazon reviews:

My Red Box arrived today! Looks just like the pictures on the website and it looks very well made. LOL, one review I saw mentioned "don't be afraid to have it shipped" - they were correct - I think you could drop it off a bridge and it'd still be in perfect shape the way they pack it. ... Eventually I'll post about how i like it ... gotta cook something!

Size looks about perfect for what I want - it's just me and my wife so I'm just doing small amounts anyway. And I wanted something I can take with me camping - although this thing is heavy for it's size - it's manageable.

And I gotta say, yup - it does look well made. I don't see anything 'cheap' looking about it. Time will tell.

There are a lot of reviews on Amazon that are positive, but you may want to read this one since it sounds like it's from an experienced bbqer and it also list some cons that may or may not apply.

"Had my hopes up before getting this reverse flow smoker, but it ended up falling short in a few areas and I returned mine. I'm a professional cook on a budget and figured this could replace the kamado I'd spent the last few years competing on. I gave it more than one star because it is made of quality materials for the most part. IMO, it's got a few design flaws.

                      Pros:
                      A) Lightweight, and the easiest smoker I've had to transport
                      B) Built of solid and quality materials. The latches and hinges all seem pretty stout.
                      C) The cook chamber is pretty nice, just wish it was about 25% bigger.

                      Cons:
                      A) The fire box is too small. Temps weren't freezing outside, but I'd say they were in the 40s. The small fire box chewed through briquettes like a fat kid in a twinky factory. I refilled and restoked the fire box at least 3 times while cooking 2 butts. Get rid of the legs, and add extra capacity to the fire box so we aren't constantly having to refill the fire box. If you do purchase the unit as is, I recommend having a 2nd fire box tray to easily swap them.
                      B) The dampers really leave something to be desired. There's no shield of any kind on the back...just six 1" holes for your chimney. Heaven help you if there's a breeze blowing. Regulating air flow proved to be a constant issue, and forget about using a bbq guru or other fan system.
                      C) I had issues keeping mine up to temp with water in the pan. For the first few hours, I couldn't get it above 200. As soon as the water ran out, everything dried up.
                      D) 2 9 pound butts proved to be the max this thing could handle. They weren't shoehorned in the cooker, but there wasn't a ton of room to work with. Forget brisket or ribs as the cook chamber is just not big enough.

If you're a competitor, I'd pass on this unit. If you're a backyard smoker, I'd consider it.

Ultimately, I ended up returning the unit just because I couldn't count on it to provide the consistent cooks competitive cooks look for. Instead, I went out and purchased a GMG Jim Bowie Pellet Smoker (yes...I joined the dark side of bbq...but if you only know the smoke of the dark side). It cost about double what the RBS cost, but I absolutely love it. The only drawback is the cost of the pellets, as I'm guessing they're about 2x what you'd spend for other fuel sources."
