My Char-Griller 980 can't seem to make up its mind. It worked well for the first couple of cooks. Now when it starts to heat up it can jump above what I set it for. 250 to suddenly 700 or into ERR mode. It goes up and down. Many times it goes into ERR mode and just shuts down. That is never a good thing when you're trying to cook a good piece of meat. The first thing I checked was the flap between the fan and the firebox. There is a small warp in the flap but I don't think it's enough to cause this problem. See photos. Photo 1 shows the flap behind the wire which is how I first found it. Photo 2 shows how it sits now. There is a gap but I don't think it would cause such a quick change in temp. Up and down. Is anybody having this problem? What do you think? Should I send the control box in for repair or replace the flap.
Thanks for your thoughts.

I had issues with the controller on my masterbuilt 1050, which is similar. The electronics, sensors, switches are always the first to fail (cheap).
I bypassed the controller and just replaced it with a fireboard to control the built in fan. Worked great, but then again I already had the fireboard. .
