I am blessed... My wife is the office manager for North Pole Coffee Roasters. They do really good coffee, that doesn't have what i consider the "acidic" effect on my stomach that i get from most "premium" coffees. We have a regular coffee maker, a Keurig (they do K cups), and a coffee press. My favorite is a special mix called Latin Silk that they don't sell retail. Their 4 standards (for their k-cups) are North Pole Blend, St Nickerdoodle, Black Gold, and North Pole Decafe. But they have a lot of other options, many of them flavored. Give 'em a shot. :-)

Has anyone tried this: http://www.amazon.com/Make-Your-Coff...coffee+roaster. I was looking for a roaster and was amused by this.

I bought a couple of 1 liter Hario cold brewers on Amazon ($18 or so each) and I coarse grind the darkest roast I can find and steep in my fridge for 12-24 hours. With the two brewers I have a rotation going of 1 liter/day of super smooth cold brewed coffee. It's almost too smooth though, so I'm still looking for a little kick. I drink it black.

I am loving cold brew as well!! It is also much easier on my stomach. No special equipment needed for this method. It does use a lot of coffee and makes a MESS!

I never expected to find a discussion on coffee on this site, but I now know to expect everything on this site. Folks, I thought I tried about everything about coffee that there is until I read the musings here. All is well & good for the individual &"their quest.
For me, I just got tired of the complexity & the cost of some of the brews, & don't even get me started with the robbery of Starbucks or the k- thing. For about some 30 to 40 yrs I have been occasionally drinking & brewing the original coffee, Turkish coffee (in Turkey it is just called coffee). We also had a drip machine & a French press. In the same month, a while back, the press was broken & the dripper quit.
In my passion for different types & styles of cooking, preferably out door variety. I stumbled on a video on you-tube of a chuck wagon cook, while searching for info on cast iron care. Kent Rollins is the fellas name. I proceeded to watch every video on the guy & got hooked much like I did with this site. Amongst a lot of things he got into "cowboy coffee". It looked cool & fun & we needed a new something or other for our am start.
I went to Cabellas & bought a stainless camp pot & started to make coffee like they did on the range. Just a shot in the dark I thought. We loved the end result & never have looked back. Here is another thing I thought I would never say, being a member of the flip-a-drip, only the "finest beans" crowd, I now drink Folgers or Mazwell House.
What I discovered is, that cowboy brewing & the original brewing are very similar. Ya'll ought to try it once or twice. You just may like it & save a ton of money.
You can see Rollins on you- tube or get his cookbook, " A Taste of Cowboy".

Weber Platinum Performer, 18"WSM, Smokenator, Slow 'n Sear.
Mud. A full filter of whatever my wife bought and no more than three cups in the Mr. Coffee water chamber. Sometimes there's grounds in the bottom of the cup and that's when you know you've just had a perfect cup. Plus it's a good after drinking snack!

I don't drink a lot of coffee these days ... but when I do, it's either an espresso-based Americano or French press. Espresso is brewed using a Rancilio Silvia machine and Rancilio Rocky grinder set to super fine. French press is ground super coarse. Beans are always the same Malabar Gold from the Josuma Coffee Company. Wife uses one of those k-thingys ... but we won't talk about that ...

snowswamp - It's pricey, but I can totally recommend the Rancilio Rocky grinder (I actually have two). My first Rocky was the one with the doser (grounds dispenser) and it worked well until the somewhat delicate doser broke. I then bought a doserless Rocky that continues to work flawlessly after many years. The old doserless version is kept in storage for spare parts.

snowswamp - Here's the one that ATK considers the top "reasonably priced" burr grinder: https://www.amazon.com/Baratza-Encor...66&sr=8-3&th=1

Yes I do. I buy green from Sweet Maria's, Burman's, and Smokin' Beans. Also just got a promotional deal on a mesh pan roaster from gene cafe/speedwell in Plymouth Ma in exchange for a review on Amazon. Tried it out indoors and there was chaff everywhere!

That pan roaster looks fun. I can see why it makes a mess. I started on a Whirli-Pop. I think theres still a few pounds of chaff floating around the garage.
Someday I'll get a gene. I'm just hoping to find the right deal. I'm also going to check out those site you mentioned. Thx!
This vid is one of my first roast a few years back. Cant say I miss crankin on this thing BUT its a GREAT wat to start and good back up:

I like Peets. There's a Peets Coffee shop in the lobby of my office building that folds into my morning ritual, and at home I go the Commissary to pick up the same beans at half the price. I'm pretty lucky in that regard. I hand grind the beans and use 1 scoop/2 cups of water.

I just came here to say... Aeropress FTW! My wife picked it up for me for Christmas after I had mentioned to her I was thinking about getting one. I can now make excellent coffee shop quality coffee at home.
