So you left the ice in there, rather than ditching the ice after all that shaking?

I have taken in the summer to leaving a little ice in my whisky sours after shaking too, as its hot and I like my drinks cool.

Never mind. In re-reading the recipe I see you have an ice cube in the glass, which is distinct from the ice in the shaker.

I assume you had a few while writing the title.

CaptainMike I don't think whiskey is supposed to be frothy when you pour it in the glass

Only because of the simple syrup. And it's not frothy. You can certainly stir.

Hahaha, I'm pretty sure stirring is exactly what Eric's doing!

Looks much like mine...and quite tasty.
I’ve also been known to use all bourbon or all rye. Kinda depends on my mood and location. I tend to only carry bourbon in my suitcase. LOL Traveling also brings up the cherry & orange peel...not likely when I’m on the road. Missed, but not generally enough to go searching for.

Just made one and this is my first old fashion and I like it, I used Canadian rye whiskey, keep up the good work.
I normally drink my whiskey with a little water but I like this drink. You are right you can still taste the whiskey.

Proof I made at least one of these! I was at the tail end of the drink at this point. It kept me company as I repaired a pressure washer and tested it out yesterday afternoon! As an aside, Honda small engines have a horrible carburetor design...

Great drink recipe Huskee - I couldn't knock more than one of these out in a session though. A little sweeter than I expected.

Wow, most people say they're less sweet than they expected. You could certainly go 1.5oz of each whiskey (3 total) or .25oz simple syrup instead of .5. Glad you enjoyed it!

Huskee I think its the sweetness of the bourbon/rye mix itself, more than the double strength simple syrup. Also, I've spent all summer making whisky sours, about 2 oz rye or bourbon, 0.75 ounce 1:1 simple syrup and 1.25 oz lime or lemon juice. The orange bitters are not as much tart as that much lime/lemon juice.
