I’ve always had good chicken, but have not been to a Popeyes for over 2 years now. I’ll think twice now of going to one if I get the urge. I remember the first time having Popeyes. It was a catered work lunch and I was so impressed that I asked where they got the chicken from.

Every three years or so I have a conference in New Orleans. There is a Popeyes on Canal Street, right next to the Sheraton and Marriot. It is curiously, consistently good....more so than any fast food place should be and it is a tiny Popeyes.

I often wonder if it is because they are based in New Orleans.....kinda like how the Olive Garden restaurants in Orlando are just slightly better than what you find elsewhere.

We were in Abilene the other day and ate in an Olive Garden. I haven’t eaten in one in years. We had a great meal. I’m still wanting more of that cold fresh salad we were served. I kept it simple and had the parmesan chicken. It was good.

When we were in Nola several years ago, a tour guide told us their Popeyes is not like ours. We went to that very one and he was right. We bought a bunch and brought it home.

I'd guess that anyplace that can stay open in NOLA needs to be consistently good, or they'll get no patronage. Lots of big towns are the same, I know it's that way in San Francisco for the most part. When people have a lot of options, everyone raises their game (yay!)...

I used to love their spicey chicken and Dirty rice

Believe it or not I have never eaten at a Popeyes, guess I'm not missing anything. Whatever was served to you was disgusting.

Popeye’s have sprouted up like weeds around here, but I’ve never understood the appeal. I’ll take KFC or Brown’s any day.

Back in the day I thought Popeyes was head and shoulders above the Colonel. Never had Browns though.

I remember when I was young KFC was incredible, it seemed to be the world's best chicken. It was a treat for our family. The opposite seems to be the case now, in my area anyway, their chicken is regularly mushy, too salty, and that price, good lord the price.

Huskee Yes, the price spun out of control. Ours was a 1/4 mile away, but it got so expensive we only went a couple times a year.

We used to go to Popeyes, but haven't in several years. I always thought the chicken was very good, but the onion rings, (now discontinued), were great. I only went once after they discontinued the ORs.

The red beans and rice is an elite fast food side, but I don't go there nearly as much as I used to. The one in my town tends to be messy in the dining area, and that always makes me wonder what the part that you can't see looks like. No really bad health department ratings yet, so I haven't completely written them off.

Yeah, I'm on the same club as to Popeyes opening here in Fond du Lac. I was totally in on their fare. Since I stopped going to all chainfrises, exception of beef patties at Culver's or Hardee's, breaded, chemically coated & cooked food is off my table. Saved a few dollars in return.

I can go to one of two Popeye's in my area and one is terrific and one absolutely trash. I've observed the workers and the management. That's all you need to know about choosing most restaurants.

It's a shame that a few people can ruin an entire business's reputation, even if management turns over and new staff is hired, few will ever know or care when they've been burned at a specific location.

There were 3 here in Chattanooga and one in East Ridge TN. One closed, the one I went to is relatively new, and the East Ridge one is only marginally better.

The last time I ate at a Popeyes was about 3 years ago, right about the time things began to get normal. I got a chicken sammich, wanted to see what the fuss was about. When I tell you this sandwich came with extra mayo, it must’ve been a whole quart, it was running out the sides and the bread was drenched. I laugh about it, it was so bad. The irony is I asked for no mayo. 😒🤣. Needless to say, I will stick to Chick-fil-A. It provided us good comedy relief the rest of the car ride.

                them feel.

When I worked at the mall, all I ate was Chick-fil-a. I hate pickles, so I took them off, but there was pickle juice in the bun. 🤢 I got to where I couldn't even look at a Chick-fil-a sandwich, and I went years without eating one.

Probably the best take-out fried chicken I've ever eaten was at Brookshire's Market in Grand Saline, TX. Too bad it's six-hour drive from where I live.

Thankfully I've never had any chicken that looked that bad!

Popeyes near me closed down for several years, then they built a new one a mile down the road from the old location. No clue if it's any good. To be honest, the only CONSISTENTLY good fried chicken I find around here is at Publix, and at Bojangles. I don't think I've ever had a bad piece of chicken from any Bojangles. But Popeyes was pretty hit or miss before the old one closed. And don't get me started on KFC. We have ONE KFC left, and the wife and I drove through about a year ago at her insistence, and it was literally horrible. Really bad. We will never go back. Sad, because I used to LOVE that 11 herbs and spices, in extra crispy... this was extra greasy...

For now, I'll grill my own chicken, or if I want fried, go get an 8 piece box (a full chicken) at Publix for $9.99. Or drive through Bojangles.

Do a Google search for Grace's Perfect Blend (strong blend), it is basically the original KFC seasoned flour. I have a pressure fryer but it is good just cooked in a skillet on the stovetop. It tastes like the KFC I remember from childhood.

I got chicken from Publix awhile back and it was very salty. I haven’t tried it again. The best is a spatchcocked chicken on my Chimp, but I was lazy. Funny, I went to Bojangles first, but there was a 10 minute wait and I was impatient.

Per a tv ad this Monday, the Colonel offers a special of 8 pieces for $10.00 on Tuesdays only. I tried it out. They gave me a mix of original and extra crispy. After adding my mashed potatoes and baby green peas, I made 3 meals from everything, and it was great. I have not had any fried chicken in several years. The last Popeyes I had was about 3 years ago and I was not a fan.

My two favorite chicken places growing up were The Golden Skillet and Churches Fried Chicken. There was no chicken like either of those spots.

That would be about the time Church's bought out Ron's.

The chicken breasts at Church’s were so big back in the day I thought they were some kind of genetically developed hybrid. Scared me.
