    Popeyes

Years ago, when I was on temporary assignment at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant and living in Huntsville, I ran across Popeyes Chicken. It was so good I ate there every day for a week. Fast forward several years and they opened franchises here in Chattanooga and they were good for awhile. They gradually went downhill but I would try them every now and then to see if the quality came back. No more. This was from last night. I went through the drive through and I wasn't able to take it back. I emailed customer service and the response was send the receipt (they didn't give me one). I am officially done with them.

That’s bad for any chicken house.

This is sad but funny! I literally just wrote a Yelp review (as if that will do anything) about my Popeyes here in League City Tx. It's been like this for over a year now. Absolutely disgusting. They have lost me forever.

I don't know what happened. I used to love Popeyes. Guess I'll have to get my fried chicken game up to snuff

Unfortunately its more than likely the personnel at that store. I travel for work and have several favorite food chain stops. You would not believe the difference in taste from store to store. I attribute it to the management and the work ethic and I believe both of them are on a downward spiral. On the positive side, when I find a good one, I make it a point to let them know that I appreciate their efforts.

Yeah I've had REALLY good food from Popeyes, but I've also had lots of consistently bad experiences.

I no longer go to the two in my area. Actually the only one I will go to is in the Atlanta Airport, it's extra expensive, but always good. I've heard the way to tell if a Popeyes is good is that if there's almost always a line then it's a legit one... Interestingly our never have lines even at peak lunch.

KFC here is also hit or miss, but when they have the Nashville Hot on the menu I'll hit it up.

That's shame. We have one half hr from me in Mt Pleasant, MI and it's wonderful. When their chicken is done right by people who care it's excellent.

The last assignment I worked at we would do an office-wide Popeye's run every Friday. It was always good and everyone looked forward to it. That was over 10 years ago.

Dang. I've had only good experiences with the Popyeye's I go to here, but it's probably been a year since I've been there.

On another disappointing front, the brand new Sonic just a few miles from us really let us down last time. We tried their new smash burgers and they clearly had no idea how to execute them. Also, their tots have been reformulated and are horrible

Nooooo!!! Sonic tots? I love those greasy little nuggets

We tried the one closest to us in Brownwood TX last year. Maybe we hit them on a bad day but our orders were like the grease had been too cold. The sandwich was really greasy and the shrimp were like greasy rubber. We ended up throwing it away instead of eating it. I make a mean spicy chicken at home so we’re ok.

I was being lazy. That ended yesterday.

That stinks. The one near me is still really good, but I haven't eaten there in at least 6 months.

The only Popeye’s in my area that I am aware of is way across town so I’ve never been there. BUT for outstanding chicken I have the little tavern one mile away that serves the old fashioned Broasted Chicken dinner. For anyone unaware of what that is, it’s fried chicken cooked in a pressure fryer. Hard to find these days. So good.

They serve a half chicken (in parts) with coleslaw, choice of potato, (mashed w/ gravy, wedges, or fries) and garlic bread for $13. Yum.

I used to live near a broasted chicken place in PA I think it was. Excellent chicken

Broasted chicken was a major thing when I was growing up in the late '60s, my recollection is that broasted chicken joints were very commonplace. I always guessed it was a combination of broiling and roasting, had no idea it had pressure cooking as part of the process...

When I’ve had it, ours put out really indifferent food. It’s consistently below average, but not as bad as those pictures. I don’t bother, but I haven’t had any fast food at all in probably 4-5 years. So actually I don’t know if it’s gotten better! (I doubt it.)

That chicken looks awful. We have one in Greensboro that is just OK but a fairly new one in High Point that is really, really good. It definitely depends on staff and that starts with management.

Guess I’ve been pretty lucky here in H-Town. I’ve never been served anything close to those pics. Popeyes spicy has always been my favorite chicken. The one closest to me closed down. 😢 About 3 years ago they put a sign in the window that said “Temporarily closed due to kitchen fire”. Stayed that way till a few months ago when they tore it down. I don’t eat at a Popeyes often, but the ones I have visited were excellent! Bums me out they can’t all be good.

It was my favorite too. I stopped eating the Colonel's when I found Popeyes. I'll just have to fry my own I guess

BREAKING NEWS! I’ll be damned! I just drove by the aforementioned Popeye’s that was torn down, they’re rebuilding it into a new and more modern Popey’s! Yahoo! All the walls and signage are up…shouldn’t be much longer before they’re open. 👏👏👏
