Your first smack down had Chili's as the winner and this smack down has BWW. When you are done with smack downs you should revisit all the winners and judge them against each other.

Good idea David, except I’m broke and sick of burgers for a while. I think what I’d like to do is give the burgers a break until after the MeatUp. Meanwhile, I’d like to visit some wing places starting this week. Then maybe post some stuff about the first 3 places? 🧐

Oh, forgot to mention….Chili’s and BWW are still fresh on my mind, plus I made some notes about each place when I got home. The burgers at both places were really good, but I’d have to give a “slight” edge to Buffalo Wild Wings, just for the uniqueness of their hatch chili burger!

One good thing about 5 Guys is if I am feeding my family one large fries is plenty for us all. Because of that it only ends up being a few bucks more than a lot of other fast food restaurants and less than a lot of dine in places. And we all love their fries and burgers so it is one of our go-to burger restaurants.

I like 5 Guys burgers and their fries are great. Most of the 5 guys I've been to have semi-limp fries at the corporate mandated cooking time. I like mine tad bit crisper. I got into the habit of asking the folks there if they would leave my fries in the oil for 20 seconds longer. They come out terrific that way. 5 guys states that they cook fries to order so I don't see why it would be a problem, however, the 5 Guys in Panama City had this little nebish as a manager and gave me grief so I canceled my order and never went to that location again. The Coke Freestyle is the best thing about the chain.

I am a fan of 5 guys burgers, but you are right - the amount of fries is over the top. I stopped ordering them. Never had a BWW burger, but I have had their wings numerous times. Before I got the big TV I spent at least the first weekend of March madness there because of all the TVs. The wings are just ok, but the beer was cold and I could watch all the games simultaneously. I don't eat at Cheddars. I gave them up after a couple of tries years ago.
Thanks for taking 6 for the team

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I guess I am in the minority here in LIKING Five Guys. And they do have a "Little Fries" on the menu for $3.89, at least around the corner from me. And I don't normally get the double patty, dropping the hamburger with a single patty to $6.89 (no cheese) or $7.39 (cheese), with any toppings you want. The little fry order is still plenty for the wife and I, and we can get in and out for $20 or less for the 2 of us if we drink water. I am looking at their take out menu now for those prices.
I think the Five Guys pricing varies some by location, as they are a franchise operation. I know a buddy in Orlando was making the same complaint as Panhead John about spending more than $20 on lunch. BUT to be fair, he had a double burger, regular fry, and a milkshake. And Orlando has touristy pricing on everything.
Most of the Buffalo Wild Wings locations went under around here, so that's no longer an option.

Jim, I liked Five Guys, the burger was pretty good. I also like Jack in the Box burgers, so my comment comparing them was a back handed compliment I guess. 😎 I just briefly scanned the menu until I saw the bacon cheeseburger, knowing ahead of time that’s what I wanted. After getting my $12.64 bacon cheeseburger, I was a little surprised at the size of it. While it was a decent size, it looked to be a little smaller than all the other burgers I tried. I’ve never tried 5 Guys “Little” burgers, but I doubt if one of them would fill me up if it’s smaller than what I got, unless I ate all 800 of the French fries that come in the “little” $5.09 option. Here’s the menu, no $3.89 option here. The burger was a double meat, but with fries, and a small fountain drink, tax and small tip was almost $25.00….Never again

Panhead John looks like your pricing is a couple bucks more than mine, across the board. This is the takeout pricing for the Five Guys a mile from my house....
Your burgers are $2 or more higher, and the fries are all $1.50 higher. That adds up!
The difference between the little and regular hamburger is 1 versus 2 patties. I used to always get the double bacon cheeseburger, but in trying to cut back, I've gone down to the little cheeseburger. I still don't lose weight though, go figure....
But you are right. It would be nice if fries were thrown in for those prices!
I ate with some of my kids one Sunday, and the place we wanted to go (wings place) was too crowded so we ended up next door at a place called "Big Daddy's Burger Bar". Aside from our waitress being STONED out of her mind, and being goofy as all get out, the burgers came with no sides, so fries were Ala carte. It was a decent burger, but over priced and not worth going back for. Which reminded me why I had not been back since a business lunch there 5 years ago...

I love 5 Guys. We had one in our neighborhood that closed a few years ago. It’s where my daughter ate her first cheeseburger. I made her try one because she refused to try one. She said she would but it had to be from where good. Of course she loved it.
The first cheeseburger looks like something my FIL would make. We usually serves up some pucks when he grills burgers with lean meat my MIL provides. Never thought to try a burger at BW3 (that’s what I’ll always refer to them as). Will have to try it.

John, I see a future for you. There’s a guy who highlights day trips all over Texas. He calls himself the “Day Tripper.” I can see it now - John, the “Food Tripper.” Keep those reviews coming, so we can avoid the bad ones and zoom in on then good ones.

All this cheeseburger talk!! So I had to rush to the store, buy burger stuff, griddle them up for lunch and scarf it down. No fries though...
I do like 5 Guys, but the local one plays bad rock music so loud it is almost impossible to hold a conversation. Burgers - good. Ambiance - bleh. It is kind of fun to watch one of my buds stuff peanuts into his pockets, though. Damn cheap senior....

Five Guys was pretty good....20 years ago. The quality has slipped and the prices are ridiculous. I like a greasy burger...but they're over the top greasy and the fries are mushy. I thought that maybe it was just the one around here...but we tried again on a road trip out of state and the food was just as bad, and expensive....

I'm baffled at the Five Guys love. And I'm not even talking about the cost or the fries.
Its been a long while since i've been there because I had nothing but greasy, sloppy, unseasoned burgers. Any place that refuses to season their food with salt does not get my money

You guys must have bad cooks at the Five Guys you visit. Mine have always been seasoned from what I could tell. And they were not overly greasy either. I've ONLY had it at 2 locations, both in Huntsville Alabama, and both owned by the same guy that also owns several other local restaurants that are all franchise operations (Nothing but Noodles).

A great left over French fry hack is to cut them up the next morning, cook up some onions and green peppers in a skillet with your fat of choice and toss the fries in for a few minutes at the end to get them warmed up.
Serve with a couple over easy eggs and some bacon or breakfast sausage and you have a great breakfast.

Very interesting----I wonder about the consistency from one chain location to another---last time I walked into a Five Guys I turned around and walked out after seeing the prices. The best burger by far comes off of my Blackstone!!!

Ditto that. No one has touched my smashburgers in a while. Throw in some griddled onions, a fried egg and even some crisped up pastrami. These burger places WISH they could do this.

Oh yeah. Nothing beats a smashburger on the griddle in the backyard. Wish I could do that all the time. Today and yesterday with blowing rain and winds and 50 or less degrees, its not ideal griddle weather, especially when its out in the open...

Five Guys… tried them today. Missus got the small plain cheeseburger (ketchup and mayo added at home). I got the same but with grilled onion and mushroom. The burger slid all over the place once I added ketchup and mayo. We also got a mid-size order of Cajun fries and ate almost all of them. And a small boat of peanuts for the outdoor wildlife. Aldi kosher dills on the side.
The food was not bad, but Five Guys is in a busy, overcrowded strip mall on a busy main road. We probably won't be regulars because of that.
