For Part 2 of this spellbinding series
I decided to try a few places that might not be the first place that comes to mind for burgers. My favorite was probably the last place you’d think to go for a hamburger. In the last 3 weeks I’ve now eaten hamburgers at 6 different places. Don’t wanna see another burger for at least a month!
Anyway, here’s where I went this time around and what I thought…
CHEDDARS SCRATCH KITCHEN

At Cheddars I ordered their bacon cheeseburger…a 1/2 lb. burger served with 4 slices of bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion. It comes with fries, no extra charge. While the burger was fairly good, it was a little dry, hardly any juices at all. Tasted like it was made with a 90/10 pattie. It was made better by the addition of 4!! bacon slices. The burger was not only served lukewarm, but the cheese slice wasn’t melted onto the pattie while cooking, it was just thrown on cold at the end…major faux pas to me! The veggies were good and cold, tasted pretty fresh to me. The fries were also served lukewarm 😡 While they were decent tasting fries, they would have been much better served hot. I like mayonnaise on my burgers and they gave me some on the side. Get this, the mayo was the star of this show, no kidding! Whatever mayo this was, it was better than any I’ve tasted before, blows Dukes away for flavor. I actually went up to a staff member and asked what kind it was….they didn’t know. I’m sure it was probably something delivered by Cisco in giant containers, go figure. 🤷♂️
Burger with fries and a soft drink and tax was $15.35….before tip.
FIVE GUYS BURGERS

I had lunch today at Five Guys, it was only the second time I’d ever eaten there…now I remember why, I’ll explain. I arrived at 11:15 this morning, I was the only customer there. For comparisons sake, there’s a Vietnamese restaurant right next door and it was packed, about 3/4 full, and it was a pretty good sized place. Right before I left at 11:35, one guy by himself came in. We were the only 2 customers in the place. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with grilled mushrooms and onions on it. Here’s one thing they do that pisses me off, their smallest order of fries is $5.09! For a single diner this is ridiculous! Who wants to pay $5.00 for frickin’ French fries?! They give you enough that’ll easily feed 2, maybe 3 people. The cup they came in was packed full and there was an equal amount scattered in the bottom of the bag. What about smaller and cheaper portions for folks dining by themselves? I took my leftover fries home and counted them before I threw them out, seriously. After eating all the fries in the cup, which was plenty for me, there was 40…FORTY….leftover fries that just went in the garbage. What a waste.
Here’s another thing that a lot of us can’t stand. When paying at the counter, they have the dreaded TIP AMOUNT that you have to enter, something anyway, before proceeding to pay. While there is the Zero tip option, I tipped 10% just so they wouldn’t spit on my food or somethin’. I hate tipping at a fast food joint just for taking my order! And….they didn’t even bring my food to me, I had to go get it myself.😡 Rant over. While I did enjoy my burger, it was pretty good, I’ve had just as good a burger at Jack In The Box….seriously! The fries were excellent. They had an option for a Cajun seasoning on them, which I ordered. This was the only place out of the six I’ve been to that charges extra for fries, not a big deal, but I damn sure don’t wanna pay $5.09 for them! Five Guys was the least “bang for your buck” place that I went to.
BURGER with fries and a soft drink and tax was $22.45…before a $2.25 tip, making it almost $25.00!!
BUFFALO WILD WINGS

Look at this onion ring!

Saving the best for last. While Five Guys was the least bang for your buck, lemme tell ya, Buffalo Wild Wings was just the opposite! Here’s the deal. First off, I ordered their Bacon Smashed Hatch Chili Burger, which came with fries but I opted for onion rings instead, $2.00 extra. The burger came on a Challah bun with well proportioned toppings and a juicy 1/2 lb pattie, American cheese, hatch chilies, pickled hot peppers and Hatch chili aioli. This was probably my favorite burger of the 6 places I’ve been. Just plain juicy and full of flavor! And damn, those onion rings! I don’t eat a lot of onion rings, mainly because I don’t eat out that much and when I do, they’re usually not on the menu. My lone attempt to make them at home, nothing to brag about, trust me. These were the best onion rings I remember ever eating. The batter was just right, a light, almost tempura style which I really like….. and there was actually thick and big onion slices inside. The tasty burger and onion rings made this lunch my favorite of the 6 places I visited. Buffalo Wild Wings?!? Who’d a thunk it? Now, get this, on Mondays and Wednesdays they have a Buy One Get One Free on their burgers! Buy a burger with the included fries, get the same free! Helluva deal! I took my free order home for another meal the next day.
Burger with onion rings [$2.00 extra] and tax came to $18.93 before tip. I didn’t order a drink, just had water.
Here’s my grades for the 3 places….
