I've had both Five Guys and In N Out extensively and for me, In N Out is the best fast-food burger I've had, hands down. Their mantra is that nothing is frozen, everything is fresh, and this is why they're so late arriving to eastern markets - they would expand with new stores only where they were within a day's drive of one of their distro centers.
First time I've heard complaints about their fries - I've always enjoyed them a lot. Who knows when I'll get a chance to re-evaluate though...
It's also my understanding that the company treats its employees a lot better than do the major fast food chains. I have a vague memory that they even get some profit-sharing, but even if true that info is many years old and may no longer be the case. They seem to hire folks who are a bit older than just high school age - again, been many years since my last visit.
I liked them when I live in SoCal back in the mid 80's. As a promotion, they gave away logo bumper stickers " In-N-Out BURGER" until some locals cut off the B and R. The company family owners were not amused, and the promo was stopped.
Looks like the East Coast is in for a treat! IN-N-OUT’s expansion means more people can finally taste those legendary burgers. No need to rush your diet—sometimes, the best recipes are the ones that bring pure joy (and a side of fries)!

SheilaAnn - Fatburger opened a restaurant near me and I thought it was better than McDs, BKs, or Sonics. However, it only lasted a year or two.
Shake Shack recently opened a location near the Costco we visit. I have been there several times and thought the burgers were good but not great. SWMBO ordered chicken nuggets last time we visited. I tried one and thought it was possibly the best fast food nugget I have had. Fries were OK, but not great.
I dunno. They're good burgers, but not super special. The fries are nothing at all to be excited about. Honesly like Smashburger chain a bit more.
After reading Panhead John's accountings of his recent burger exploits, I doubt I'll ever order another burger out again... hell, I can't afford this crap!
Did you have to visit your local credit union to finance this series, John? I'd imagine, with all your fancy car shoppin' the last year or two as well, eh? Didn't you just get that Lincoln last year and now you've already traded it off? lol
Yeah, it’s weird. I traded in the Lincoln exactly one year to the day I bought it. I wasn’t planning on that, it just happened. This will be my last car for a very long time, trust me on that. The Genesis is a much better looking car and just as nice as the Lincoln was, and it’s also bigger. I didn’t do it spur of the moment or anything, it was several weeks of back and forth ..and watching about 25 YouTube videos. 😂
I had In-N-Out Burger in 2011 when it first came to Dallas. I was not very impressed and would probably be even less impressed now that I actually know what I’m looking for in a burger.
