Latest update on the damaged GrillGrates I received. Happy to report that the company replaced two of the four grates immediately. However, they declined to do anything about the two grates that had bent corners that will make interlocking impossible. They suggested I bend those corners back down with pliers. They are obviously much stronger then me - couldn't get them to budge. I will follow Mr. Bones suggestion and cut off those corners to get them to interlock. Otherwise, no way they will fit into the box of my Weber Summit.
I suggested to them that in the future when they offer seconds for sale that they be a lot more up front with customers that they may have to do significant work on them to make them functional.
They should replace all of them. This is disappointing to hear. Defects in a product that makes them unusable or require you to put work in to make them work, are not "cosmetic issues" and it should be replaced.
Disappointing. And certainly not what Brad led us to expect. Physical damage is not cosmetic, and not what they advertised. It makes me think twice about them as a company now, and I’ve certainly pushed them on friends and family for the past year as a great addition to their grilling Arsenal.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Another update. After hearing that I was unable to bend the damaged corners of my remaining two grates, the folks at GrillGrates agreed to replace those ones as well. So I should have four new grates on there way.
I do appreciate GrillGrates ultimately choosing to make things right. Still believe that they should provide appropriate caveats for future factor second sales, or perhaps vet the products that are shipped out to avoid these kinds of problems.
Thanks for the update. The fact that they would balk at replacing them out right makes me wonder. They should go out of their way to replace them, not have YOU try to repair them and call them back. At least they are replacing them all now.
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Here's verbatim the sale email text that came to me on 3/29, prompting me to tell people about the sale:
For a limited time only, we are offering our Factory Second & Watermarked GrillGrate Panels and GrateTools at a discounted rate. Limited quantities available. When we sell out they are gone. All products are perfectly usable with minor blemishes, dings or scratches. The hinges are still intact so you will be able to interlock them with any existing grates or grab several to make a set and even add a GrateTool for $5!
That verbiage seems pretty clear, makes no mention of bent panels, and goes out of the way to say hinges are intact. Seems whoever shipped the seconds was not paying attention to what they promised in some cases.
Thankfully all the panels I know of who people here in Alabama bought (a few dozen panels total) had no issues with being bent and causing issues with panel interlock.

Maybe the guy whose job it was to separate the useables from the scrap called in sick a couple days and the warehouse folk just shipped the whole pile of boxes not knowing. Ya just never know. I bet this was a great learning experience for GGs.
Perhaps, that stuff happens. However, they still declined to replace a defective product, until they were pressed to do so. That is where I have a problem.

Received the four replacement grates yesterday. Happy to report that they are all in fine shape, and I'm looking forward to deploying them on my Weber Summit. Very glad that GrillGrates chose to make this situation right.
