I was on Facebook yesterday and since they reminded me of my bday they will donate 5 bucks to a non profit of my choice. Well I used operation bbq relief as my non profit of choice. Looked this morning and a couple of friends of mine from high school already donated to the cause. Well worth it cause ya never know when ya might need em.
Such generosity! I got this from Stan Hays, the OBR Director a few minutes ago. As you know, we donate 5% of membership fees to OBR and they did a tremendous job in Houston and Florida a year ago.
---------------------------------------
We are pre-positioned in the Charlotte area with Boss Hog, refrigerated box truck, a refrigerated semi truck with meat on it, a semi truck with non-perishable food and supplies on it, additional large capacity generators and several more smoker trailers. Our strike team is ready to move in when it is determined by officials to be safe.
We anticipate Florence to cause disastrous flooding up and down the coast from the impact area and stalling out along that area for days. We have scouted several different deployment sites along the coast and inland near large populations.
Once our primary location is set up and running we will determine if there is a need for a secondary location or other needs. Our primary location is set up with equipment, food, and manpower quickly ramp up to 25,000 plus meals.
We are working on attaining a list of additional needs once we are on the ground.
We will be sharing information and updates in the coming days. Please share our social media if possible. I will do another update on Saturday.
Much Respect,

My son and I are OBR volunteers and are signed up to deploy for Florence relief. We won't know the where/when until the storm passes and a deployment site is determined.

Thank you for everything! I really appreciated your advice when we had the floods up here when the Oroville damn failed. Although I couldn't get the crew here, I learned about politics in CA that make helping very difficult. I'm so glad they showed up for the two big fires. I was exhausted after volunteering but the satisfaction was so much greater than the fatigue. Awesome organization!
Was in the middle of Harvey last year on south Texas coast. Was without power for over a month. The local newspaper had a food trailer guy that rents space from them and cooked every day and night. It was sure nice to get a hot meal once or twice in the month so I know what its like to be slammed with down power lines and no way to cook a regular meal. I will give em sum help fo sure!
I would like to be in on the ground support on site. I am ready to roll, needing NOTHING in my truck (which has been from Alaska to Baja for fishing). I'm carrying 30 days on the books and would be off with one or same day notice, and my boss knows this. (he's a vet too) How can I get involved with in-person support?
I've always been expecting to do Tornado relief in MO, but thankfully we haven't been hit since Joplin. I've got off-road search and rescue equipment, med, EMT and Red Cross instructor certs, etc. My wife is an attack nurse (my term for helo-rescues - air lifts).
That would be so much fun. I'm smart enough to load at least 50 gals of potable water first thing...
But I do have a check engine light on today - I hope it's the LED lights.
JGo37 awesome rig. Thanks for considering to help. Here's the steps to volunteer:
If you ARE available to help (even for just one day), please follow the steps below so that your official deployment can be scheduled.
NOTE 1: Your official deployment notification will be sent approximately two to three days before your first scheduled date unless your first date is less than two days away then it will be sooner.
NOTE 2: If there is anyone coming with you they must also follow the steps below; each volunteer must be individually registered and logged.
Step One: Register as a volunteer with OBR. This is required to attend any OBR Deployments or Events. It only takes a minute. If you received this e-mail then you are registered and can go directly to step 2.
There are three methods you may choose from (Please enter your registration data carefully and accurately or we will not be able to contact you).
Preferred Method - Download the OBR Volunteer app to your smart phone using one of the following links (note using the app allows you to receive deployment push notifications):
Step Two: Sign up to to the specific deployment/event. This can be done through the app you downloaded (if you did) or via the website; follow these steps:
Log into the OBR Volunteer app on your phone (preferred method; see links above) or via the OBR website
Go to the active deployments
Click "I'm Available" in the app (you may need to scroll down to see the button)
Select all dates on which you can deploy
Click "Apply" (you may need to scroll down to see the button)
That is it! You are then both registered in our database (this is a one-time thing now so you won't do it next time) and you are volunteered for deployment. Then you just need to be patient with us as we work through the volunteer logistics. It will be a couple of days before you get a confirmation depending on how the timing on this plays out. But one way or another you will receive a response.
Incredible. Thanks so much. You already know doing the work is more personally fulfilling than any reactions you get from those you help - so do I. I'll go thru the process completely and look forward to any time(s) I can help. Whoo Hooo!
You're very welcome and absolutely right that you get more out of it than you put in. Right now because of the flooding threats, no one will be asked to deploy before Monday. Let me know if you head out to help.
