A common tactic on the forum I moderate on Reddit is to find a popular post legitimately made some years ago and repost it verbatim under the scammer's user name. Really annoying

I have a question. The wife and I found out last year that we are ghosts. We haven’t used credit or had a credit card in so long we have no credit score. Our own bank of 40 years told us they couldn’t loan us money unless we build a credit score again. Does this protect us in any way from someone opening an account or getting a card in our names?

While no CC can lead to low credit history, you still have some. If you have a cell phone, utility bills, a mortgage and or a car loan you still have a credit history. We pay all our bills with a credit card, pay it off weekly and rack up points to buy things we don't need like my new grill. The CC helps more than normal bills to maintain our credit

I just now put a fraud alert in my name, online using Equifax….took maybe 2-3 minutes! The best part is when you register with one of the Credit Reporting Bureau’s, they report it to the other two for you. You don’t need to notify all 3 yourself. I’m doing this because of the recent massive data breach. Here’s a link if anyone else wants to do it, you can also do a credit freeze if you prefer that, instead of the fraud alert.

Done! Thanks for the link to the site to do this. My wife and I both did the fraud alert. I've been keeping a closer eye on my accounts anyway, but it's good to have another layer of security. My next task is to get my mother signed up. She's right in that demographic that crooks just love to prey on.

Huskee Is it helpful to the mods if we report suspicious accounts? Or is it a case that you're going to spot them easily and it's better to stay out of your way and not clog the inbox?
