    Based on Huskee’s post, I’m 100% sure @Gwatho was a primitive bot.

Panhead John I just want to know if he’s still feeding kiln dried wood to his offset and complaining about the results 🤮.

I get calls all the time at the coffee shop I work at trying to scam us. A lot of times, employees get asked to go and buy a gift card with cash from the safe or with the p-card. It’s crazy stuff.

I didn’t get any spammy PMs. I feel a bit insulted that I am not good enough now. 🤣

I don't know where that guy went who was asking for my SSN a few days back, but if he's reading this my SSN is 6.

Chat GPT called and said they still haven't figured out a way to create a girlfriend for Panhead John .

It's probably the family of Panhead Johns mail order bride trying to hunt him down and get their most recently missed payment.

Oak Smoke No. Nobody's payment info is stored with us at all. Your info is stored either with Stripe (debit or credit card) or PayPal, depending how you paid/renew. Your payment info is under their stringent care. Further they (bots or other ne'erdowellers) cannot access your other details either, email, mailing address, etc, unless you give it to them. This is also part of the reason why several years ago we stopped allowing email addresses to be used as usernames.

Oak Smoke - Sky Net is the cause of all the bad stuff in the Terminator movies. The AI - Skynet - which we are finally getting to - is given control of all the US defenses, and decides the humans are the problem and must be eliminated

jfmorris Just what I was afraid of. One day it’s science fiction the next it’s real. This isn’t the first time that’s happened in my life. It’s like raising a lion that you know will eat you some day. The geeks will win yet. Believe it or not I ordered a new book this morning. It’s a 2 in 1 book. George Orwell’s 1984 and Animal Farm in one hard back book. 1984 isn’t fiction any more.

Oak Smoke agreed - it took a few decades longer than ole George predicted, but 1984 is practically here, with the past few years trends of rewriting history, destroying monuments, renaming all the military bases and schools, etc.

Just last week my oldest sister got an email with my and my wife's name and address on it. It included a PDF shake-down letter saying that we had been watching kiddie p*rn and unless they were sent a very specific amount of bitcoin they would turn us in. It included a Google Maps pic of our house. It was a pretty thorough blackmail attempt.

Thankfully my sister, although much senior in years, works for a company that invests a lot in teaching it's employees how to spot scams. She also knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that I would never do what the letter accused. We figured out that there had to have been a data breach at a mail order site my sister uses regularly to send us gifts, which is why the scammers had my name and physical address but my sister's email. We reported it to the site admin, but haven't heard back.

Sorry to hear this. In the old days scam artists needed to go out into the world, pick their mark, and then run the con. Heck, even Nigerian princes had to go buy a stamp and mail a letter. Now they sit in a cubicle or on their couch, buy some stolen data, and with utter distain for everyone else try this kind of sh*t. I’m a live and let live guy but these people deserve long prison sentences..

A background check company recently got hacked so all of our SSNs, emails, current and past addresses, email addresses, etc... it's all out there tied together. The company just like AT&T earlier this year swears they didn't have that data of mine, yet my handy dandy information protection service (that the govt pays for losing my data years ago) found all the info tied together and attributed to the service.

But seriously…. I received an email about my SS found on the dark web. Being a true victim of fraud, I called my bank and let them know.
paranoid? Maybe…. But my bank has my back for over 20 years…

First off, we have a true friend at the bank that will bend over backward for us.
Second we pay over a hun every year so that we will not be scammed thru our credit line, to a national fraud company and get alerts all the time, "was this you?" Click yes or no.
I do not know what else an honest person can do.

Recently there was a major data breach of billions of personal data records including social security numbers from National Public Data. These were dumped on the dark web. Everybody should check their credit reports, bank records etc. I put a freeze on my credit reports and signed up for an ID fraud service. I received notice that a medical scanning company that my doctor used 4 years ago also had a breach. If you don't want to freeze your credit reports, you can put on a fraud alert good for 1 year on all three credit reporting companies. By law you can request your credit report at no charge at least once a year. SheilaAnn

SheilaAnn When you register a credit freeze or fraud alert with one of the 3 credit bureaus, they automatically contact the other 2 for you. No need to contact all 3.

EDIT: I was wrong on the freeze part, you DO need to contact all three for that. Thanks for clarifying jfmorris

My thoughts are that pretty much everyone got hit by the NPD thing. No point in freezing anything as it's the equivalent of a scammer hitting the lottery to get you with millions of records comprised

Panhead John @ShielaAnn been reading up - the fraud alerts are communicated to the other companies if you contact just one. The credit FREEZE requires you to contact each company separately.
