Well, as luck would have it I am looking for this advice as well. Our conical grinder that provide a perfect grind (Were really happy with it), up and died after only 8 months. The reviews were stellar, but the reviews since we purchased are not so stellar and describe the exact issue we are having (beans won't feed from the hopper and a kinda popcorn effect that is keeping the beans from feeding to the grinder).

Reached out to the manufacturer/seller as required 3 weeks ago, but radio silence. No doubt they made a cost saving change to discover it wasn't. Reached out to Amazon, they say to contact the seller/manufacturer, Amazon has no advice on if the seller/manufacturer won't respond, and Amazon doesn't feel they have any responsibility for items they "feature" on their their site.

If I can have one rant, if a website "features" a product (we all know they took money to do it) and puts it at the top of their search function, then they should own the warranty/responsibility for the product. Yes, Amazon I am looking at you... Yes, Congress I am looking at you to require it (I realize Congress can't, without forming a committee, locate the nearest bathroom, but I have hope).. Yes, I know that I will feel better once I have given up all hope..

      Which grinder should we avoid?

What brand was the grinder? Personally, I use the Batatza Encore and an Aeropress. Fantastic grinder.

We just ordered the Batatza Encore, which wasn't as highly rated as the one that just died, or the Oxo conical burr grinder.

It is a Shardor, which got exceptional reviews on Amazon and other coffee related forums before we bought it. To say I was very happy with it for the past 8 months would be an understatement, but once it died the warranty and support were worthless. On Amazon, it is still one of the top brand, but it is starting drop.

I bought a similar and cheap handheld knockoff on Amazon. Has worked perfectly for a couple years now. If it breaks it is going in the trash and will replace it with one just like it.

The meat trays are pretty much not recyclable, so we reuse them as we can. I have another to hold the coffee grounds that come from the aeropress. These go into the garden.

I contacted the grinder manufacturer they replied and told me this is a left hand thread so now the coffee grinder is working again. I never considered this,I feel kind of dumb actually. I think I will add some medium strength locktite so this does not loosen up again. I was going to buy a replacement today, I watched a lot of coffee grinder videos this weekend for nothing.

Glad it worked out, but I was looking forward to hearing how the new one worked. I don't know why but this prompts me to share my own thread related story. I was on a business trip and bought a bottle of wine for the week. Took it to the hotel bartender and asked him to open it because I don't travel with a corkscrew. He unscrewed the cap and handed me the bottle back. We both had a good laugh.
