    Coffee grinder died

I bought an expresso machine and then I found out I needed a better coffee grinder so I bought an 1Zepresso JX Pro S hand grinder for about $150 and it worked well for 13 months, my only complaint was the threaded connections would loosen up and it would lose its zero settings. Yesterday it had loosened up while I was grinding, I tightened it and I stripped the super fine threads holding it together, so now I am looking for another hand grinder. Buyer beware of coffee grinders with too many threaded connections with very fine threads. I have decided to limit my search for another hand grinder at $200 price range.

Looks like 13 was an unlucky number for your nearly new grinder. Maybe someone here will come up with a recommendation for a replacement that will suit your needs. Here's hoping.

I have an OXO grinder for over a year now and it suits my purposes. I use it every day.

After giving several of those away, I finally tried one. LOL
I replaced the burr grinder that I had previously used for years. Nice design and the static created by my previous grinder is basically nonexistent with this one.

That makes me sad. I am a coffee person, and anything that prevents the morning/afternoon/evening cup 'o joe is a bad thing.

I congratulate you on wanting to keep things manual, but I've been happy with my Mr. Coffee (really!) electric burr mill that I've had since buying my Delonghi pump espresso machine in the mid 1990's. It has ground through untold pounds of beans over the years. I will be sad when it does die.

Can’t help on a hand grinder, but if you move into electric, I’ve had a Breville Smart Grinder Pro for a year and a half that I really like. Excellent range for grinding, however I only use it for espresso. I mention this model because it’s in your price range.

Hope you find something quickly so you can get back to your daily brew!

I have, (or had - dunno), a manual grinder, but got tired of grinding. so I jury rigged it so that I could use my cordless drill. That worked well, but I didn't like having to keep a drill in the house instead of the shop. Our son gave me an electric grinder, and that's what I use now.

Unfortunately the grinder is more important in the espresso process than the espresso machine itself, the Breville smart grinder is a good option for your price range. The grinder that I use is a Compak that I have had for ten years I clean it every other month with Grindz and take the burr out once a year and clean it.

I second barelfly on the Breville Smart Pro. It's really good for that price point, and I've had one for about 3 years. It'll do both espresso and drip coffee well.

We do a lot of espresso, but my wife has found she really needs to do decaf more often than not. I bought a single dose grinder for Christmas so we can switch easily. I know it's (a lot) more than your $200, but if you like the single dose idea - the Eureka Oro Mignon is phenomenal. You can find refurbs on sites like Whole Latte Love occasionally for $400-500. Yeah - it's stupid. But wow - is it great.

one reason I only use the BSP for espresso is I use it as a single dose grinder. I only add in the dose of beans for that grind. I looked at some of the true single dose machines and just couldn’t spend the money 😂 I use my older grinder for my wife’s keurig coffee she likes.

I just use K-cup pods. No fuss with a grinder, no cleanup, no waiting, no waste. Just a simple cup of coffee at the touch of a button. And you can get the pods in a variety of different flavors.

It’s easy peasy, just like a pellet pooper.

It's less than you stated for your budget, but I've been using a Capresso Infinity grinder and been pretty happy.

Only two minor quibbles, and the first one is pretty much common for all grinders with a plastic grounds container: it builds static and can be annoying to pour out. My only other gripe is that the vibration of the grinding can cause the container to wiggle its way out and sometimes you end up with grounds that get outside the bin.

I think I have determined my next manual coffee grinder, I like the Kinu M-47 Phoenix, this one has a 5 year warranty and it is not made in China. I only drink two cups of expresso a day usually and I like weighing and grinding my own beans.

There’s a fabulous coffee expert on YouTube - James Hoffman. From how to videos to reviews on anything you can think of. He may have a review on this if you are wanting a little more info. For some reason, I think he may have discussed this.

I have been using this for about a year now. it is great. There is also a higher version with some better components. I was/am new to the coffee grinding side so I thought I would start with the basics.

I do drip coffee, not espresso. I own a KitchenAid Burr grinder and love it. It is 14 years old. The quality and life expectancy of KitchenAid sold me. Consistency is okay to good. A little noisy, but then all are.
I did some research for my neighbor recently and found a site which rates them. You might want to take a look. If I was buying again I would consider Breville Smart Grinder Pro due to the grind consistency, price and versatility.
