Lid down or up for rotisserie?

Just got a rotisserie and I'm cooking 2 chickens. I never even considered whether the lid should be up or down. I'm afraid the fire will get out of hand if it's up. What say you all?

Always down for me too. Also out of concern for flare ups. Good luck! Don’t forget the pics!

A little side note: Apparently this was the last single Elvis recorded before he died.

I always do lid down but that’s because I only ever rotisserie whole Turkey. Even with the lid down the skin approaches over cooked.

As a married man, think of the lid as a toilet seat. It should be down unless there is a reason for it to be up.

Yes, unless there is a reason.
