Less than 12 hours after emailing ThermoWorks tech support about the bug I mentioned in my review, I got this email:

Hi Rich -
Thanks for writing, and for providing the screenshots, which are very helpful. I've been able to reproduce the same issue here at the office, so I have passed the issue along to our product development team. I'll let you know what I hear back as soon as I can!
Best regards,

If that's not prompt customer service, I don't know what is.
I finally had a chance to try out my RFX.
I placed 2 probes into my 10lbs pork butt, one on each side, and placed the ambient probe inside my PBC.
They worked flawlessly in the PBC. I was able to see how one side was cooking faster than the other, and turned butt after several hours.
I removed the butt, and placed in a pan with pineapple juice and chunks, then covered with foil and placed into my Masterbuilt electric smoker/cooker. Read flawlessly.
Was able to keep in pan covered while resting and able to be alerted when it went down to 170 for pulling.
Probes cleaned up easily and cleanly.
Very happy! I will probably buy a couple more probes, have 4 already.
Alan Brice Hopefully soon! They're saying new orders are shipping within three weeks and everything ordered from before October should ship any day now.

Looking forward to putting them through their paces once I have a few days off.
I used two probes on my practice turkey last night. They worked flawlessly. Not a single hiccup in the data stream throughout a 2.5 hour cook. I even tested the gateway and brought it to the other side of my house from the grill. No problems.
HawkerXP , I may or may not still have several cans ranging .025 to .047 floating around my garage! I use that stuff for everything! Lol. I just have a vision of you trussing your bird with safety wire pliers and bending the tail over. Kinda love it. Lol.

I just received a notice from Thermoworks my RFX has shipped! Being as how they are in Louisville, an hour and a half away, I am hoping the del date of the 25th will allow me the use on the Thanksgiving bird!
I am having a dilemma. Dust off the PBC or fire up the offset. Hmmmmm. Bad weather may elect the PBC.
Ha ha RB. Soo much going on that day, PBC will set me free n can handle a bit of weather.
Besides the Poor Baby Cooker has been lonely as of late. The SnS Kamado is too efficient.

I just received my RFX Jelly Bellys along with a gateway and 2 probes yesterday afternoon! As stated above, the setup was pretty straight forward, although the included instructions were pretty sparse. I used the color rings as you would expect, but it was a bit of an adventure to see how to name them in the app based on the color ring I put on. Note: if you want to do this, take 1 probe out of its charger at a time so that the App only sees it. Then you can edit the name of that probe.
i have an issue with the App, or at least how it seems to work. I have 2 probes, but I do not see a way to see both probes and the Gateway probe in 1 graph showing all 3. It looks like you can only look at the session and graph for 1 probe at a time. Am I missing something?
I did a quick distance test of the Gateway to probe connections, similar to what I did with my FB Pulses. Placed the 2 RFX Meat probes in a cup of water on my kettle, closed the lid and then went around my house to see if the Gateway could connect to the, throughout. Nope. Similar to the Pulse connectivity, going upstairs to the front of my house caused the gateway to see the probes as “inactive”. Moving closer up stairs to the backyard, the Gateway reconnected similar to what the Pulse did. Not a big deal as I expect the Gateway to always be next to the cooker to use the wired ambient probes off the Gateway. No WiFi issues occurred in this simple test.
I of course love smoked meats of all kinds, but also like quick cooks like chicken portions, pork tenderloins, steak and fish. Really into cooking of all kinds.
My outdoor kitchen has a Lone Star Grillz Adjustable and it is wonderful. There also is a Pit Boss 5 Burner Ultimate Griddle and a Pit Boss Copperhead pellet grill.
There is an outdoor fire pit that has grilling capability and limited Santa Maria-style grill raising and lowering.
Oh my. My only partial regret about my Fireboard 2 Pro system I got last year is that the base unit can only accept three probes plugged into it. With one for the grate, that leaves only two for meat.
And then I got the email about the Pulse. I thought about it for a few days, took a quick look at the website and then moved on. And then yesterday I began to wonder just how many Pulse probes will connect to the Fireboard 2. The answer: 32! I know I'd never use that many probes, but that changes everything in my mind. I'm not making the jump yet, but I feel the strong pull of being completely wireless for probes while cooking but still use the Fireboard to control the cooking temperature. I'm assuming I'll be able to look at the ambient reading from each if using several probes, and that might just make the uncertainty about ambient a little more bearable. I suppose there's even the probe in a potato trick that wouldn't have the problems with cold wet meat.
FYI, FireBoard has upgraded the Pulse firmware so that it can control the fan attached to the base unit. I don’t have a fan or blower, so I cannot give you any feedback on the details for this.
GolfGeezer Yes! I was excited to see that is the case so that I wouldn't have to use a wired grate probe. The Fireboard base controls my old BBQ Guru fan, so I didn't even have to buy a new fan when I changed brands.

All four probes and the Gateway were picked up by the app very quickly. Everything is charged n ready to go for thurs cook. I am in the process of making fresh S&G and the PBC has been examined. I will set the PBC up tomorrow to have ready for thurs.
Pulse works great in my kitchen oven and in a sous vide bag, as does RFX. I like both brands. No issues with smoker either. I haven't been brave enough to chance the potentially higher heat of the grill.
I've used the RFX on a blazing hot grill with no problems. It's rated up to 1000F, so unless you're running a crematorium in your backyard it should be fine. ;-p
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
As my bird now spins on the Performer with the Weber rotisserie ring, I ponder the fact that I had the RFX with 2 probes in my shopping cart not once, but twice last week, and kept resisting! Well, guess I will trust in my handy dandy Thermapen and start doing manual temp checks every 10 minutes after I pass the 2 hour mark on this 18.9 pound bird...
Mine arrived on Tuesday. I was planning on using it on my turkey that I was going to smoke on my kettle. However because we were were out of town over the weekend I couldn’t buy a turkey until Monday night. All that was left were 20lbs+ birds so I got one and the kids voted for mom’s turkey in the oven. I’ll still use this because it looks awesome.
I told my wife I that the feeling of not using cooking with fire on Thanksgiving left me feeling naked. I was angling for her to say go buy some steak but all I got was an unsympathetic nod. We settled on me do a few bricks of cream cheese.

Ok this is driving me nuts - one of those little niggly things you can't find the answer to, it's a small thing, but for me, I'm obsessing over it.
PGH_RAM, Ricky Bobby, Alan Brice or any of you guys who have and have used the RFX, can you tell me how the stupid probe cradles charge????
I have TempSpikes - I hate that they all have to be plugged in independently of each other to charge the base. Also that I have to try to keep the probes 'paired' with their respective bases - i.e., a probe won't charge or connect with the cradle from another probe. It's a PITA.
Fireboard Pulse, the charging cradles for the probes stack together and one cable can charge a bunch of them. Not sure how many, but like 6-10 at least, I think. Maybe more? Who knows.
For the RFX.... I cannot find it on their website, and I have literally just watched about 10 different reviews on the RFX, from 2 minute shorts up to 22 minute detailed vidoes (couple hours I've been looking now) and not a single one I've found actually shows me how the RFX probe cradle charges, and if you can potentially charge more than one at a time. I really don't want to get the 4-probe version and have to independently charge 4 cradles before a planned cook. I've had this issue with my stupid TempSpikes, I've got to plug 3 of them in different places on different chargers to get them all charged up and ready to cook (ok, 2 now, since another one appears to have died). It's just a hassle.
OR, how LONG does it take for the charging cradle to fully charge, is there any kind of indicator to let you know if the cradle is 'maxxed out' on charge, etc.?
I'm frustrated none of the videos I've watched today describe any of this. It may be in some of the other ones I've seen in the past, but I can't remember. I know the Fireboard Pulse definitely makes a big deal of this 'stacking' feature, which I think is a HUGE plus - at least for me.
Each cradle has a battery in it. No charging cables or plugs to deal with. FB does not say, that I can find, how many you can stack. I have 3 Pulse probes that easily stack for charging.
