Suggestion for The Pit site: Today's Posts page

I heard the other day that someone else does the same thing I do, so I know it's not just me. My favorite way to use The Pit on a daily basis is to go to "Today's Posts" and see what's new. I spend almost all my time here, unless I need to specifically look something up - in which case I go to the Forums list and access there, or just do a Search.

So, this suggestion applies only to the "Today's Posts" section of The Pit. I think it would be great if you could see what forum and/or sub-forum a particular post appears in when looking at the list view of all the new posts.

    Here's what we see currently:

Name:	Notopic.JPG
Views:	268
Size:	9.6 KB
ID:	341890

This just shows the title of the topic, who started it, and everything off to the right side. But sometimes a topic might be titled something ambiguous, like "Well, I never!" (just made that up - not referring to any specific post). I would like to know a bit more about that post without having to go into it, and I think if it had the forum it appeared in, that would be very helpful. For instance, if it's just in General Discussion - Off Topic, I might not check it out. But if it's in BBQ Sauce Recipes, I might be more inclined.

When I searched one of the topics I had done previously, here's what came up:
Click image for larger version Name:	Withtopic.JPG Views:	1 Size:	31.8 KB ID:	341885
This very nicely shows what forum my topic appeared in (General Discussion).

I'm guessing a lot of other people than just me use the Today's Posts page as their primary place to interact. It would be nice if the forum/subforum location could be added to the posts as they are viewed there, just to help people better know a bit more context about the post.

    Thanks!

I'm not seeing this post anywhere... Did it go through?

That finally got it to show up in the Suggestions forum feed.

I thought I would throw my 2 cents in so it wouldn't look like you were having a whole conversation by yourself. What you explained is a desire or thought I had awhile back. Just don't have the tech savvy to splain it. Good idea.

Great idea j_keegan. I agree this would be helpful!

One thing you can do right now is hover your cursor on the title of the thread. The URL that shows up at the bottom left of your screen will indicate which forum it is in.

Thanks, Steve R. for that tip.

          I heartily ditto j_keegan 's suggestion.

I agree j_keegan. The mods & I had this discussion a while back, since it would be helpful for us too to see if posts are in their proper place. Steve R. is absolutely right with cursor hovering, this is what we use too. But yes, the pathway, or at least the location channel would be helpful. I'll forward this to our tech team to see if it can be turned on or if it's a vBulletin thing that can only be implemented in an update from them.

Yes the cursor thing is great but use an IPad 90% of the time. I think that's why my posts are always caddy wompass .

HouseHomey Yeah, doesn't work too well to do the cursor hover thing on a mobile device.

Really if you try to hover your mouse (finger) over the link (link) you're not even touching the screen so that doesn't work so good.

Other groups I belong to have this and it is pretty handy. If someone asks for help using a specific brand of cooker and it isn't specified in the post title, it would be nice to know they need info on a BGE, something that I know absolutely nothing about, I would find that out easier with the forum grouping indicated with the title.

Just to get this in the mix... I usually use my phone to view posts so hovering over title is not available.

Steve R. Thanks for the tip!

FireMan Thanks for having my back when I'm looking a little nuts. My original post didn't show up on the site for some reason until reply.

j_keegan you are correct. Good post. I am one of those who tittle things like that that. I tend to write like I talk, which is a problem. I will reconsider how I tittle things in the future. Thank you for sharing this.

HouseHomey I wasn't trying to call anyone out - just thinking that the forum titles would allow people to still do that (titling posts "Hey!" etc) as they want to, but then those of us who are intrigued by those titles would just have a little more context before heading in to check it out.

j_keegan no worries, no offense here. A valid point that I agree with on my part. It's all good.

I interact the same way and can see this as a good enhancement.

I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S8 right now and a press and hold on the thread title works:

The right 3-D touch pressure on my iPhone apparently behaves similarly.
