Learned Apple basic on Apple IIe in high school. Never learn Assembly. Never had time. First computer was a VIC20. Yep. Spend the day manually entering (and debugging) 5000 lines of basic to play a simple game, power off. Code gone. Yes, documentation always seems to be a problem. Linux (and all unix based os') have man pages (manual pages). You type "man + command" so man ls (ls = list directory contents), and you get the manual. See the web based version: https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man1/ls.1.html -- this is what you see on the terminal. Most of them never even have example usage.
AI... that is a whole other chapter..
VIC20 Cassette tape for saving programs. Pre-floppy disk. You hit record, then typed the save command, then waited for the system to report the save was complete, then you hit stop. To load was the reverse, type load command, hit play, wait for load to complete, hit stop. You had to keep track of the counter to know where on the tape your program was stored. Fun times...
