I created a Post this morning about my new pizza oven. When another member posts a reply or comment, I get an email with a link to their post. However, the link takes me to the top of the post, and does not show all the Replies, including the one I got an email for. This is happening across browsers (Safari and Firefox on my iPad and Edge on my PC). I've cleared cache, re-logged in, but the issue persists.

Might have found a fix. This seems to be an issue that effects the forum software.
The fix is to remove the caching time for search results (the recent posts link is actually a search result).
It was set to 30 minutes. So up to 30 minutes. I set it to zero. No caching. But that might cause load issues.
I will monitor the server for any issues. The server should be able to handle it.

This has been going on for several weeks now. I can go to “Recent Posts” and click on someone’s response that was posted 20-30 minutes earlier, nothing. All it does is take me to the top of the page, as GolfGeezer mentioned. It’s happened to me several times already today. Hopefully raywjohnson can figure it out. It’s totally random when it happens, it doesn’t do it all the time, but maybe about 20%-25% of the time. What’s weird is it seems to only happen when someone makes a “Post” in the thread. If someone makes a “comment” to a post, it takes me to it like it’s supposed to. Very frustrating. It does it on my iPad and my iPhone.

What causes this is the reply/comment in question, for some reason, hasn't posted yet. You get the email alert that someone posted, or you see that they've posted in the Recent Posts view, but it isn't actually visible yet. Therefore the link in the email you click can't take you to it, so it takes you to the top of the page as if to say 'I dunno man, I tried, you take it from here'.
This has happened on and off for years. Solution? Who knows. Patience. I have tried clearing vBulletin's cache hoping this would clear the cobwebs but it doesn't always. I suspect it has something to do with Cloudflare.

I totally get it that it sometimes takes a couple of minutes for a Post to actually show up. It’s always been that way since I’ve been here. But, in the 4 years that I have been here, it is suddenly taking forever to see some of the posts. I’ve never not been able to see a post as long as it’s taking now. As I mentioned, it’s totally random, but frequent enough to be pretty frustrating. I’m seeing delay times of 10, 20, even as much as 45 minutes before I can see the post sometimes. Just this morning I got a notification that someone posted at Jokes, I clicked on the link and it goes straight to the top of the Jokes page. I then scroll down to the bottom of the page and the person’s post was not there. It was almost 30 minutes before I could see it show up in Jokes.
To get even more specific, it doesn’t seem to happen when someone “comments”, only when they make a “Post”. If it’s worth anything, I’m not signed up for the email alerts when someone posts. Thanks!Last edited by Panhead John; June 19, 2024, 01:44 PM.

I will look into this again. See what I can do to get the software to behave.
I could be all the caching (cloudflare, CDN, server, browser) just to save 100 bytes of bandwidth.
It is most likely the forum software. I will put my boot to it's backside.Last edited by RAYMBO; June 20, 2024, 08:16 PM.

I need to express my frustration. Something is wrong. I can count at least a dozen times today I go to Recent Posts and see someone posted. I goto it and nothing. I know it's been expressed before but I see no improvement.

I’ve chimed in on similar recent threads on the same topic but I’ll add my agreement here. It’s been a long-standing issue but the delay in posts appearing has gone from say 2-5 minutes to over 30. Maybe 2-5 minutes is normal for the software but the slower times are annoying when we are chatting in almost real time.

Please leave us alone while we’re bitching. 🥸🤓
EDIT: As mentioned before it’s random, but still annoying as hell.
