You cannot delete entire topics, even if you started it. You can only delete your own posts/replies/comments therein. On a different note, if you haven't already, be sure to spend some time in the Help section, the very first/far left menu item in the main red menu bar. It contains a lot of FAQs and other self-help items you will likely find useful and informative.

What happens if I make a new thread and then decide I want to delete it? Is it gone?
And - what happens to that thread if other people have replied in to the thread? Are their replies gone too?

Yes, as noted above, the "-1" just means something was deleted after you received that notification. I don't know why vBulletin doesn't remove the "-1", since it clearly knows there's been a change, but that's what it does.

Another common thing is when you click a notification link and you then get an "Oops this page doesn't exist" notice. Usually when you see something fishy in the notifications like this, it means something was moved or deleted.
