Personally, I like to have the thread title take me to the first post. It helps especially when something new is added to an old post and I need to recheck it.
You can always hit the little blue circle with the two down arrows next to the title to go to the latest post, (you probably know that, but newbys reading this may not).

I did not know that. Many changes since my last visit. However, those arrows you mention do not seem to appear next to all thread titles.

I think that is if there have been no new posts since I last logged in. If there are new post otherwise, I believe it is showed in red, but no link to the first unread. If everything is read, then shown in blue. Splitting hairs...., and I could be wrong the color code thing.

The "Most Recent" tab also does not organize comments by the post that is being commented on, but apparently by when it was posted. Can be a bit confusing.
ya know, we never noticed the blue double-arrow on the left side of the page next to the thread topic title on the Most Recent Posts screen. We've always used the red arrow on the right side to go to the latest post in the thread.

And the reason there isn’t one of the little blue double arrows on every post as TheCountofQ notes above means there is no new content on that thread since your last visit if no arrow is there.

Yep. I don't always read everything I want to at every visit. It's not a huge deal... but would be nice to have the feature to take to the first "unread" post work correctly. The blue arrows seem to do that, when they are there.
This does not seem to be working. Am continually taken to first the post in a thread. Operator error?
You are fine. The system is working, accept for Sticky topics and topics with emojis in the titles (I will work on a fix). And if a topic is already read (i.e. no new posts that you have not viewed), then the title will not be bold and the link will not go to the new posts (as there are none).
Keep in mind, if you click to view the new posts, all the post in the topic get marked a read.
