Unable to post JPGs from phone

I get every other post that loads pictures from my phone. I am really confused as I want to share my cooks with you all.

Can you be more specific? What happens when you try? Do you get an upload error, or can you not place them into a post once uploaded? Maybe share with me a screenshot of the error to my email huskee(at)amazingribs.com if you can. We may be able to help you if we can understand the specific problem.

IMG_#.jpg Image upload failed because the extension of this file did not match the content.
((This is the message I get on my android. When pulling images from non-Google Gallery))

ComfortablyNumb It's a thankless job, trying to help. Always a farter smeller out there and they're sure to let you know it.

Can you connect yur phone to a computer? If so, you can then access phone photos through the 'puter.

I email them to myself and download to my laptop. A PIA, for sure, but I don't post many cooks so not that big of a deal.

I have an android and it is connected to google email which included photos. So with in a couple of minutes I can get the photo from google photos. Then I can upload to AR.

That reminds me, someone asked me the other day if I was a rotary member. I told him, I drive through them all the time but didn’t realize there was a club.

On occasion I've posted pictures from my phone, been able to see them on the phone, but they don't show up on my computer (If I recall, this happened with my Easter lamb chops). Usually it works though.

          Greetings all.

Here are a list of reasons that could cause these various issues.

I see the image (in the device I uploaded from), but no one else can see it, and you cannot see it on another device (desktop).
This happens when you copy and paste the local path to the file. Like C:/Users/username/My Documents/Pictures/imagename.jpg

A browser can load and display that on the device that the image exists (both the image and the browser on the same device only).

IMG_#.jpg Image upload failed because the extension of this file did not match the content.
This happens if you have an image in one format (like PNG) and change the file extension (JPG). So you have a PNG (myfoodimage.png) and that gets changed to (myfoodimage.jpg). All files have info encoded into the file (at the start of the file), that identifies what kind of file is it. If that info does not match the extension, the forum software rejects it. This is for security. This is how hackers get a system to upload executable code. Like. myscam.exe is changed to myscam.jpg and gets uploaded.

          Other issues
If you copy and paste an image directly, it will show, but since the data is base64 encoded, and must be passed in the url, the url will be to long. Even a small image of 10K is larger than the allowed URL for most browsers. Firefox (and oddly Safari) allow 64k, but that is 1/16 of a 1MB file and most images are much larger that 1MB.

This is difficult to debug without access to the original image that isn't uploading (hosted and accessible from elsewhere)

Depending on your phone and photo settings the image may be saved as one file type that is not specifically JPG internally inside the image itself.

Its also possible that the image settings on your phone have the default size of the photo being too large for the upload and conversion software to handle (most likely too large a pixel size vs too large a MB size).

In both cases, any analysis testing would involve you going through the camera and photo settings, making changes, taking a new photo, and trying to upload that test photo again.

If you have an example of a photo that isn't uploading posted somewhere like Google drive or other service, you could share that URL privately with the board admin for them to maybe take a look
