    Brasero position and grill height

Are there any pros or cons to a side or rear brasero?

Also, when designing the grill, what's an ideal height for the base of the grill? I'm looking at potentially buying a grilla outdoor kitchen 4 piece set and I thought the "built in" section would be ideal for an Argentine grill insert.

I apologize if this has been talked about before but if it has, I couldn't find it using the search. Thanks!

No apologies necessary about it being discussed before, we repeat a LOT of stuff here and that's ok. I wish I could help you but I am curious myself now that you brought it up. I will be watching this one.

He's right. Check out the "fake meat" thread if you don't believe us.

I would think a side brasero would be easier to manage and be able to move the coals to the side instead of trying to pull them from the back.
As far as the height. You should have it at a comfortable height for you. Meaning the cooking height should determine how high the base should be. If that makes sense.

In my novice opinion I would agree 100% with the side position unless you're a swimmer and opposed to arm hair.

To me the side position makes more sense because it will have less of a (potential) impact on food temp. Typically grills are wider than they are deep, so having the brasero to the side means a smaller area of heat that could possibly keep the grill hotter than you’d like. I have absolutely NO experience or anecdotal data, simply a brain that works is strange ways.

As for height…100% the level that’s best for YOU! The comfortable cook level for my 5’4” wife is lower than what I prefer at 6’4”. Since I do most of the cooking we have a taller grill.

Hi I have mine on the side placed so the logs are placed front to back. However if you have the space GrillWorks the maker of my Assado suggests placing left to right tucked back.

            My setup:
