Food Network's new BBQ competition show "Pitmasters" aired tonight.
Alot different than other BBQ competition shows.
There are 9 teams of two and the competition takes place over 7 consecutive days, possibly including overnight cooks.
I am not familiar with all of the people competing but here are the teams I am familiar with:
Christie Vanover & Susie Bulloch
Leslie Roark Scott and her son
Al Frugoni & Jeremy Yoder
Esaul Ramos & his wife Grecia (I got to meet Esaul a few years ago at ZZQ BBQ in Richmond)
The judges know a little bit about BBQ also:
Big Moe Cason
Ernest Servantes
Jess Pryles
Andrew Zimmern - also host
The cool part is the first episode they all had to make cinder block pits to cook with. They also have an off-set smoker. There are also various grates and accessories to use.
The first contest was each team had to prepare a family style meal for everyone (judges and competitors) with 2 proteins and at least 1 side in 10 hours.
Seems like an interesting concept.
The first episode hasn't finished but I have liked it so far...
