    New website? BBQ Warrior

Not sure if other people are seeing this in their Facebook feeds or not, but I kept getting inundated with ads for the "BBQ Warrior" site. I finally clicked on it, just to see what the heck it's about.

Apparently, this is a collaboration between Myron Mixon, Steven Raichlen, and Myron's son, Michael. Along with instructional content, recipes, livestreams and the usual stuff, it looks like you get access to BBQ Rules and Primal Grill shows. Never seen BBQ Rules, couldn't tell you what that like, but I enjoy a few of the shows on Primal Grill now and again. For me, with basic access, I find it difficult to find good BBQ shows streaming, but I don't feel like the shows would be enough to make me pony up to see what it's all about.

It's a hefty $96 a year or $10 a month for access. And you do get a free t-shirt (snicker).

If anyone has signed up, what do you think?

Personally, it'll take a team of wild horses to drag me away from AR at this point, if I were to sign up, it would certainly be in addition to my Pitmasters Club membership. I'm never letting that go.

Mods, I was a bit hesitant to post this, as I feel like it could be a competitor to AR and the Pitmaster Club, although I think, AR has a distinct edge on anything out there, and the Pitmaster Club is lightning in a bottle. If you feel the need to remove this, I will not be offended. I didn't link to it on purpose.

After giving this some thought I personally am not interested. I get on my soap box once in a while about the lack of loyalty I see today in so many areas, college sports for one. I watched Mixon on tv years ago and think his ego is a bit larger than I care for. The knowledge base here is incredible and accessible. You can ask a question here and get answers from several very experienced pit masters with a variety of different points of view. Besides the Pit is where you can tell a joke, complain about your team, and reach out to wonderful people when you’re sick or hurting. I’m not even sure why I would see it as an act of betrayal but I do. I’m happy here!

Thanks Oak Smoke I was really reluctant to post this, but I'm sure other people were getting hammered on the various social media platforms, like I was. I feel the same about some of the things Myron had said over the years about "makin money", on Pitmasters, made for good TV, but didn't really jive with what I thought the competition circuit was typically about. I'm sure prize money was great, but I'd think the time spent at the competitions and meeting people would be more of a draw.

Oak Smoke to continue, while I did enjoy watching some of Steven's shows over the years, I always felt they sometimes leaned toward more eclectic recipes, things I probably would never cook or try. Not really just good ol backyard stuff, we all have access to. I suppose he's trying to appeal to a very wide audience. Plus the amount of different cookers he'd use was staggering. I usually went away with "Now, how the heck would I cook that on a basic kettle?".

Myron was here in Chatt at an Ace hardware store hawking his pellet rigs several years ago. I didn't make it, but he holds his rigs in high regard as evidenced by the prices. I bought his book awhile back when it was on sale, but I haven't really looked at it (I have MCB syndrome). All to say i have watched Myron for years. I think he is kind of arrogant. I'm not interested; between this forum and the included BBQ stars stuff I am good.

@klfolwers, I agree. With all the knowledge here, the friendly atmosphere, and pretty much finding an answer to anything I've ever asked here, I personally think, they're really late to the game.

I think Myron gets a bad rep because of his TV personality. He was actually a very welcoming and humble guy when I met him.

He does have a wealth of knowledge to share but it’s not any greater than you will get from meathead or many of the other members here.

I think it may be a bit of competition but he’s going to be pulling a demographic that’s more geared towards competition bbq where AR has a broader appeal. I believe learning is a lifelong endeavor, but I’m more so here for the community than anything. I doubt his site will be able to beat what has been built here.

Not surprised that there's a "TV guy" and then an "Actual guy". And after perusing around, I did feel like they were catering towards competition pitmasters. Tips and Tricks, that sort of thing. Obviously, both he and Steven have a vested interest in getting people to come to their cooking classes, buying their products, so I imagine there's going to be an emphasis toward that from the website.

They want about four times the price of AR!? That would have to be one heck of a website and come with LOTS AND LOTS of annual swag, not just a t-shirt. Quite frankly, I’m happy here and see no reason to join another pay site.

Same thought here! It's about the same cost of an entry level premium channel sub through TV providers. And doesn't seem like they have a give-away option. I'd guess you'd need to be a pretty hardcore fan of at least one of those guys to pony up.
