Video: British Highschoolers Try Texas BBQ For The First Time

This video is great. I think the same reactions would apply to many Americans who haven't ever tried properly-done BBQ. I hope you enjoy it like I did.

I watched that the other day, cool video. The headmaster was really impressed with the BBQ too. I liked the one kid who when asked to give some feedback said: "Don't make anymore cornbread!" In his defense they didn't serve it with butter, or honey, or tell him to use it in his beans. Just dry non-sweet cornbread.

Another kid said he didn't want to eat British food anymore.

I 100% agree with their sentiments on cornbread. To me it tastes like a crumbly old kitchen sponge if it doesn't have butter & honey.

I’m also a “skip the cornbread “ kind of guy. Nope. Not for me.

Sugar in cornbread? It looked more like yellow cake.

I've seen this one too. It's awesome. They have several of these types of videos with various foods from the USA like biscuits and gravy. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing!

A fun video. I tried to find a video of North Koreans eating bbq, but they wouldn't load. It just showed a black screen on 3 different videos.

These videos are so great. I wish I could travel the world and be the test subject for the world's cuisines.

I have watched a few of their videos. They are always funny.
I just watched this one yesterday.

I wonder how. old and dry that cornbread was.

Fun video. Years ago, a BBQ place near the state prison in Atlanta served great moist cornbread with cracklings in it. I have not seen that anywhere else.

At the 1st Meat Up my son and I were in line at Snow’s in front of two brothers in their late 30s-40s who were reared as vegetarians. The younger one told us that the 1st time he tasted meat he went home and asked his mom why she was hiding it from them. That kind of reminded me of the responses in the video. Or if you remember “The Chronicles of Narina” when the kids went into the wardrobe and entered a world they never knew existed. For those high schoolers Texas BBQ was a world they never knew existed.

A couple of years ago we hosted a gathering of fellow James McMurtry fans from all over, and one came all the way from Malmö, Sweden. She had never had anything like real BBQ before, and I had a bunch of stuff that I'd made in the days prior, vac-sealed, and then reheated in the sous vide on the day. Brisket, SLC and BB pork ribs, pulled pork, pulled chuck. I was watching when she tried the brisket and the look on her face was priceless

I had to watch this again and let's be honest, the reactions they have to tasting these impossibly great tasting meats just hits home as to why we're all here in the first place. That payoff first bite, the one that overwhelms all your senses at the same time and makes you pause to try to comprehend what just took place... and has us spending paychecks chasing that one fleeting moment. What a beautiful thing.
                        Long live BBQ!

I just bought a British "middle schooler" a copy of Meatheads first book as a reason to learn conversions and cooking technique. Can't wait until he nails a few things and sends me pics and hopefully videos like this from his friends.
