      I can beat that. My wife had a nearly fatal brain aneurysm in late 2003. Airlifted to Harborview in Seattle. Chief surgeon had just edited THE book on such ailments. I special ordered it thru UW Med School. I had worked into the squad of residents who followed him on rounds. Did a book review while they were rounding on my wife, pointed out an error in the book, MD, with whom I had developed a good relationship, looked at me like I was crazy. I pointed out that in his foreword he said that the book had articles from every continent. I noted the absence of anything from Antartica. The residents thought it hilarious. He, not quite so much. But he later touted my wife as his star patient, in an office follow-up.

          Impossible! This can not be true.....

          Urk. Yes, it is. Page 119.

          Totally okay with this. I've been an editor of a technical journal for many, many years and some of the things I have let slip through -- after proofreading over and over and over and over again --- make me cringe to this day.

            Nerd Alert: I read paragraphs backwards for spelling, the forwards for grammar, etc.

          Wow. That's the ONE recipe I have made from this book and never noticed. And I edit and proofread books! Slinking off to a corner now...

                  As compulsive as Kenji certainly appears to be, he is probably mortified, assuming he knows about the error.

                  A recent recipe in our local paper for Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes didn't include potatoes in the ingredient list!

                    He is popular enough that his books get translated into other languages. I wonder how many typos creep in due to that.
