Cool 90 second steam train vid I shot this morning

We took the Reading & Northern from Pittston PA to Jim Thorpe today. About halfway there we pulled onto a siding to let 2102 pass:

I like how the engineer showed off for y'all as well as how the passenger with his phone way out got scared and pulled back in the window yet you didn't even flinch.

They were leaning too far out and in portrait. A good shot is in landscape, gets the side of the train we are in, with the track exiting out ov the bottom corner.

Really enjoyed your video. Kathy and I love trains and taking long trips on them. Sadly the US lags when it comes to having good passenger trains. We would have loved crossing the country in a steam powered train like this one.

We're on the return trip now, in about 10 minutes we will pass again so I'll get another video. It's right near Penobscot Station in Mountain Top PA if you want to Google Map it.

Edited to add: this one was MUCH closer! Big blast of heat! I have to trim it, I'll get to it later.

Very nice. My grandfather used to ride in the caboose when shipping fats to Omaha Stockyards from Broken Bow, NE. 1940's and 50's.

Cool video. I love those old steam trains.
Here's a pic of my crew in front of the train in Jim Thorpe on a fall foliage tour last year. Jim Thorpe is a cool little town.

The rain held off mostly, and we had a blast!

I misframed this one. It was a long day. This was a lot closer, I should have angled higher.

Nice video, the first one, because of the anticipation of the train coming up and into view. What a thrill that must have been.

Plus a train whistle's Doppler effect gets me every time.

I want to take an overnight train ride someday. Steam engines are so very cool. We had the Tn Valley RR Museum and the Chattanooga Choo Choo Station and Hotel in Chattanooga that I went to several times. I am also fascinated by realistic model train layouts that you can see on YouTube. They are so very amazing in their detail.

                          Thanks for sharing.

Those people get intense, don’t they? I remember reading somewhere about how they realistically age and weather boxcars, hoppers, etc. It’s amazing.
