Not a fan of Melissa Cookston as a judge, and the winner seems to be contrived, formulaic, and not real (shock, reality TV isn't real!). I was able to pick their last two winners from the first episode, which if I can see it coming the contestants should be able to as well.
We watched it. A bunch of people running around. Never see anyone really do any fire management. Melissa Cookston .... nope.
I like the fact they have to make sides and a dessert along with the protein.
They have them but not sure why they hardly use them.
I have watched the past seasons and started this season. I understand that the demographic that TV shows seek out have a low attention span, I'm not one. Could they focus for more than 3 seconds on one thing instead of the need for quick camera shots? My only complaint for an otherwise fun show.
I hadn't seen it, but today I am doing some "household necessities", and want something in the background I can glance at from time to time. Fun and easy, doesn't take a ton of focus. This seems to fit the bill, thanks, I'm starting with season 3 and just into episode 2.

My wife calls me "Teddy" and I call her "Princess" and that's where "mrteddyprincess" comes from.
I complain about how the challenges are unreasonable, there's never enough time, no one ever seems to be managing the fires--they're already giving off smoke at the beginning of the show, the judging seems inconsistent, and the judges can't handle more than two black pepper flakes per episode or they'll lower the score of the offending cook. And sometimes the contestants have to run to where the meat is stored and fight over which piece of meat they get to cook. If it's a contest, wouldn't you want all of them cooking the same thing?!?
Whew. But with all that complaining above, yes, I watched it because it's about BBQ.
Okay, and while I'm being petty, all the Lang's on that show are "right handed" Lang's. Aren't there any left-handed contestants?!? Ben will make a left-handed Lang. All one has to do is ask...I think 10% of the offsets ought to be left-handed. But they didn't ask me.
Started watching it a week ago. We meet the pitmaster (KG BBQ) when we were all at the San Marcos Tx Meat-Up. He is a really nice guy. Loaded us up with food above and beyond what we ordered. He's brisket and ribs were ok, but his lamb ribs, shawarma, olive studded sausage and lamb w/ rice, tahini, pomegranates and raisins was fantastic. Hope he wins.
I just finished watching season 3. I didn't watch the first two seasons but I might go back and watch. My daughter makes me watch Master Chef with her, that's what this reminds me of...... the BBQ version of Master Chef. Some of the tips/advice from Cookston & Bludso are pretty good but you have to temper expectations and realize that this show is not made for BBQ enthusiasts, it's for a more casual audience.
mrteddyprincess "I watched it because it's about BBQ"--truer words.... Despite the studied pauses at the end while we wait breathlessly to learn the winner and [studied pause again] loser. But give the contestants credit--despite the time pressure and all the complexity, the contestants STILL can take time to leave the cook, sit in the chair, and describe the challenges they're facing while the clock merrily ticks away! But come to think of it, maybe that's something I could try the next time my wife asks, "When's it gonna be done?"
I liked season1 but season 2 was only meh. Season 3 was better, thankfully. I binge watched it over a couple of days. I agree that it's "Short Attention Span Theatre" and that it's not aimed at BBQ connoisseurs. I agree, as well, with previous statements about Cookston not being a good judge. I think she's mean and she pulls the same trick every session. Still, it was fun, light stuff and the contestants this season had good chemistry with each other.
