History prof, Oxford. Circumnavigating my Chinese cuisine rabbit hole, ran into his The Silk Roads, which I have mentioned before. Then, I read his The New Silk Roads, much breezier and shorter, re current events. Now am buried in his latest. Have read first and last chapters. Heavily documented; a slow but thought provoking read. Text is 658 pages Acknowledgements, notes, index, 255 pages. About 2 out of 3 sentences have a footnote.

I am typically skeptical of dramatic climate proclamations. But, in my 73 years, in the Midwest, they plant corn earlier and turn cattle out to grass much earlier than when a kid in the 50's and 60's. Extraordinarily well documented, thought provoking, and I have barely scratched the surface.
He makes the point that historians typically ignore climate influence on human/national development,
that it has always been influential, and is increasingly so.
If I was President, I would have Frankopan in my Kitchen Cabinet.
