    New Orleans Recipes

    Hi,
I wanted to call attention to a site that might be of interest to anybody who wants some Louisiana recipes. The site has some history as well as the recipes. I did a search and didn't see it mentioned on here.

(It was pointed out that this is a nonsecure site. It is an old blog site that hasn't been updated in quite a while. It doesn't ask for personal information, but I'll remove the link and just leave the site name in case you want to throw caution to the wind.)

Love Love Love me some fried okra. I typically use 2/3 cornmeal to 1/3 flour.

I have been in the mood to make some Nachitoches meat pies. I made some one time, and I was worried that I made the filling too spicy, but when it was paired with the dough, it was just right. I think I wrote down what I did. Maybe.

Sure thing. The site is old, and hasn't been updated in a long time, so I am sure some of the product and restaurant links no longer work, but some of the recipes look pretty good.

Thank you for posting. I love Louisiana food. I do a mud bug boil every spring and never thought of making stock from the shells……doh

I look forwarded to cruising through this website. Thanks.

Ha Ha. I don't think I would have thought of that either. It is an interesting site. Too bad he quit updating it.
I kind of like the little stories about the local restaurants and history.

Where do you get your crawfish?

I was thinking of going down to San Diego when they have their festival because I always miss out on crawfish season when I go home.

Carolyn - I get my crawfish every year from the Louisiana Crawfish Co. Have not had any bad experiences with them. You should do a boil with your family and friends in SD. Most Californians have never had crawfish.

The site is a bit of nostalgia for me. Reading about Parasol's restaurant brings back a fond memory of going to lunch there with a dear friend of mine. Roast beef falling out of the crusty, crumbly bread with graving dripping. You need a roll of paper towels handy to eat that sandwich.

Sorry about that. I missed this category when I posted the topic.

We miss it too. There's only 1.8 million to choose from.

I've used that website quite a bit. The catfish courtbouillon is great and so is his version of the Muffuletta.

Just a security caution. My iPad tells me the site is not secure which probably means the information is not encrypted. Some other Louisiana sites with recipes are https://www.rouses.com/ and https://crystalhotsauce.com/

Carolyn I think I found it through Paprika search, but my wife made Emeril’s Turkey Bone Gumbo which was outstanding. I am not a turkey fan, but I am willing to cook another turkey for some turkey bone gumbo.

                    @LA Pork Butt
I guess that is good. You could hit your neighbors up for their bones. 😆
I saved my turkey carcass and was trying to figure out what to do with the stock if I make some. Now, I know.. Good idea.

LA Pork Butt I usually use the turkey remains for turkey carcass soup with barley. I've got half the carcass in the CrockPot now, the other half in the freezer for later, so I'm going after the turkey gumbo. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks Carolyn This site seemed like it would be a lot of fun, but better to be safe than sorry I guess.
